Job Summary
The Security Officer maintains a safe and secure environment by patrolling premises, monitoring surveillance equipment, and enforcing security policies. This role helps prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access while ensuring the safety of Saint Francis Health System (SFHS) patients, visitors, staff, equipment, supplies, facilities, and hospital contents.
Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification CLEET Armed Security Guard License. Certified Peace Officers must obtain CLEET Armed Security Guard Certification within ninety days (90) of hire.
Work Experience Minimum 1 year of related security experience, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to utilize effective verbal, written, and listening skills to effectively communicate with the public.
Ability to utilize positive interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
Ability to maintain professional and courteous during highly stressful and fast-paced situations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Actively patrol premises to monitor activity, control access to restricted areas, respond to emergencies, prevent unauthorized entry, and detect suspicious behavior.
Ensure compliance with site rules, policies, and safety procedures.
Protect patients, staff, and visitors, enforce hospital policies, and coordinate with law enforcement when necessary.
Maintain vigilance and respond to potential threats while deterring theft or vandalism through a visible presence.
Document and report security incidents, suspicious activities, and breaches.
Assist with evacuations and emergency response procedures.
Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory security requirements.
Enforce hospital entry and exit policies to prevent unauthorized access.
Decision Making Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
