Studio Director

Overview

I'm recruiting on behalf of a long-established architecture firm known for delivering major civic and public sector projects across California. The firm is looking to appoint a Studio Director to help lead the Civic studio in Los Angeles. The studio delivers a diverse portfolio of civic work including courthouses, civic centers, libraries, and public safety facilities, partnering with municipalities, government agencies, and institutional clients across the state. This role will focus on project leadership, client management, and studio coordination, supporting the continued growth of the civic practice while leading the delivery of complex public projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of major civic and public sector projects
• Manage project teams including project managers, architects, and consultants
• Act as a key client contact throughout the project lifecycle
• Oversee project schedules, budgets, and technical coordination
• Support pursuits, proposals, and positioning for civic opportunities
• Collaborate with firm leadership to support the growth of the civic studio
• Mentor and develop staff across the studio
• Represent the firm with clients, agencies, and industry organizations

Qualifications

• Licensed Architect with significant experience delivering civic or government projects
• Strong experience managing large architectural teams and complex projects
• Proven ability to lead projects through all phases of design and construction
• Confident managing clients, consultants, and internal teams
• Experience working with public agencies or institutional clients preferred
• Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills
