About this role:
As the Senior Director of Development for the Lundquist College of Business, you will serve as a key fundraising and strategic leader advancing one of the University of Oregon's most dynamic and externally engaged academic units. In this role, you will lead all aspects of the college's development program, driving major and leadership gift strategy with a focus on securing gifts of $100K+ and prioritizing $500K+ commitments. You will manage a portfolio of high-level donors while partnering closely with the Dean and University Advancement leadership to align philanthropic priorities with the college's strategic vision.
You will also lead and mentor a team of development professionals, setting direction, building capacity, and fostering a culture of performance and collaboration. As a highly visible and externally facing leader, you will regularly engage with alumni, donors, and members of the Lundquist College of Business Board of Advisors, strengthening relationships and expanding the college's network of support.
This role offers a unique blend of strategic leadership, team management, and frontline fundraising. You will play a central role in shaping long-term development strategy, elevating the college's philanthropic success, and personally securing significant gifts that advance key initiatives. Your Contribution Will Likely Include:
Fundraising & Strategy
- Manage a portfolio of major and leadership gift prospects, with a focus on securing gifts at the $100K+ level and prioritizing $500K+ commitments
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-level donors
- Partner across advancement teams-including regional philanthropy, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, and annual giving-to maximize philanthropic outcomes
- Build and sustain a strong pipeline of prospects through strategic outreach, data insights, and collaboration with prospect development and analytics teams
- Travel regularly to engage donors and prospects and advance key fundraising initiatives, with primary travel concentrated in California and Oregon
Leadership & Program Management
- Provide strategic leadership for the Lundquist College of Business development program, overseeing all fundraising activity and team performance
- Lead, manage, and mentor development staff, setting clear expectations and supporting achievement of individual and team fundraising goals
- Establish and drive fundraising goals and strategies in partnership with the Dean and University Advancement leadership
- Serve as a key representative of the college in development meetings and across campus, ensuring alignment between college priorities and advancement strategy
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive team culture that supports professional growth and accountability
Collaboration & Institutional Partnership
- Partner closely with the Dean, faculty, and college leadership to align fundraising priorities with academic vision and strategic initiatives
- Act as a central connector between the college and University Advancement, ensuring coordinated and effective donor engagement strategies
- Build strong relationships with alumni, parents, and key stakeholders to deepen engagement and expand philanthropic support
- Represent the college and university externally with credibility, effectively communicating mission, impact, and funding opportunities
Volunteer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Staff and actively engage the Lundquist College of Business Board of Advisors, strengthening participation and encouraging philanthropic investment
- Develop strategies to deepen volunteer engagement, broaden participation, and sustain long-term involvement
- Partner with leadership and stakeholders to create meaningful opportunities for donor and volunteer connection
Planning & Execution
- Lead long-term fundraising strategy and planning, aligning with institutional priorities and campaign initiatives
- Monitor progress against goals and adjust strategies to ensure successful outcomes
- Ensure effective stewardship practices and donor recognition in partnership with advancement teams
- Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and professionalism across all interactions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including closing at least one seven-figure gift or equivalent
- 3+ years of management experience, including leading and developing teams
- Demonstrated success securing major and leadership-level gifts
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders
- Experience developing and executing strategic fundraising plans
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to navigate complex organizations and lead cross-functional collaboration
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree
- 15+ years of major gift fundraising experience
- Significant experience in higher education development
- Experience working with volunteer boards
- 10+ years of progressive management experience
