JOB TITLE: Assignment Editor, The Crest
LOCATION: St. Paul Campus
PAY RATE: $2,600 per school year
JOB SUMMARY:
The assignment editor is primarily responsible for quality control in the scope and treatment of news coverage. Along with the Managing Editor and the Content Manager-Editors, the Assignment Editor coordinates the creation and publication of content for The Crest.
The assignment editor reports to the managing editor and faculty advisers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As pay is contingent on satisfactory performance, students should expect evaluations at mid- and semester's end.
This position is for the entire school year (both fall and spring semesters).
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collects story ideas from staff members weekly
- Reviews, selects, and assigns story ideas
- Keeps track of staff and editor availabilities
- Assembles story teams with Content Manager-Editors and assigns staff members into story teams for multimedia story treatments, with the goal of attaining the most effective and appropriate media mix
- Coordinates production of content and delegates staff oversight duties to Content Manager-Editors, sets deadlines
- Co-manages weekly news/editorial staff meetings
- Writes/produces content as planned/needed
- Works with appropriate adviser(s) to stay atop campus news coverage
- Participates in editorial review on an as-needed basis, in particular, working in concert with the content-manager editor, the managing editor, and the executive director
- Meets regularly with managing editor and takes part in setting agendas for future content for all media, in planning and coordinating new initiatives, and in constantly improving the system
- Completes other duties as assigned
- Attends all Team Leader and staff meetings
- Attends two 100-minute shifts per week
- Conducts duties in accordance with the University Policy on Student Media
- The applicant should have junior or senior standing, but others will be considered
- Has completed relevant coursework or has previous experience relevant to the job
- Has participated in student media and has demonstrated leadership
- Is dynamic, personable, organized, and has a team orientation
- Possesses problem-solving skills
- Is responsive, reliable, flexible and possesses good judgment
