
Director of End User Compute and Lifecycle

The Director of End User Compute leads the engineering, automation, platform strategy, and full technology lifecycle management for the university's endpoint environment. This role oversees teams responsible for device planning and standards, procurement alignment, provisioning and deployment automation, endpoint configuration governance, software deployment pipelines, platform integrations, security-aligned engineering, refresh strategy, and asset retirement processes across Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms.
The position ensures that devices are introduced, maintained, refreshed, and retired in a structured, data-driven manner that balances user experience, cost optimization, risk reduction, and sustainability.
The Director ensures the EUC engineering ecosystem is reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with institutional strategy, establishing clear lifecycle standards, refresh cadences, and platform roadmaps, while operating as an engineering and strategy function.
Essential Functions:
Technology Lifecycle Strategy & Governance
* Defines and governs the end-to-end endpoint technology lifecycle, including standards, refresh cadence, support boundaries, and retirement criteria across Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms.
* Establishes multi-year hardware and platform roadmaps aligned with institutional strategy, cybersecurity requirements, academic needs, and financial planning cycles.
* Develops lifecycle policies covering procurement standards, warranty alignment, support tiers, refresh eligibility, and device end-of-life (EOL) and end-of-support (EOS) timelines.
* Partners with Finance and Procurement to align lifecycle strategy with capital planning, depreciation models, and cost optimization frameworks.
* Ensures lifecycle decisions balance security risk, user experience, operational efficiency, and sustainability objectives.
Technical Leadership & Team Management
* Leads engineering teams responsible for enterprise endpoint management platforms and automation frameworks.
* Develops engineering talent through coaching, architecture standards, and cross-platform skill building.
* Promotes a culture of innovation, engineering rigor, and continuous improvement.
Endpoint Management Architecture
* Oversees the architecture and administration of platforms such as Microsoft Intune, AutoPilot, Jamf, persona based application deployment systems, and device compliance frameworks.
* Defines and enforces configuration baselines, security policies, and OS hardening standards.
* Leads the transition toward modern management and zero-touch provisioning architectures.
Endpoint Security Engineering
* Partners with Information Security to embed technical controls such as privilege management, encryption, compliance reporting, and vulnerability remediation workflows.
* Ensures endpoints meet NIST, CIS, HIPAA-aligned, and internal security standards.
* Integrates EUC systems with SIEM, identity, and network security platforms.
Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration
* Oversee collaboration with Infrastructure, Identity, Networking, and Information Security to build integrated, scalable endpoint solutions.
* Partners with Academic Technology and specialized colleges to support device engineering needs for labs, simulation environments, and research systems-without providing end-user support.
* Oversees engineering expertise to campus projects requiring endpoint integration.
Assists in expanding the knowledge level of specialty hardware and software to others on the Client Support Services team to ensure cross support of corporate technologies.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
* 8+ years of progressive technical leadership in endpoint engineering, systems engineering, or device management platforms.
* Demonstrated expertise with modern management platforms (Intune, AutoPilot, Jamf, Ivanti.
* Experience designing secure, scalable, automated solutions across large device fleets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Deep technical understanding of Windows, macOS, and mobile operating systems at an engineering and policy level.
* Strong architecture and automation skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python preferred).
* Ability to lead engineering teams and drive complex technical roadmaps.
* Strong knowledge of security controls, configuration baselines, compliance frameworks, and endpoint hardening.
* Skilled at analyzing telemetry, building dashboards, and improving system performance at scale.
* Clear, concise communicator capable of working across engineering, security, procurement, and academic environments.

* CompTIA Security+ or equivalent security-focused credential
* ITIL Foundation (Required within 6 months)
* CISSP, CISM, or GIAC (helpful for security partnership but not required)
* Apple ACSP/ACTC (for macOS engineering environments)
