Onsite Upholsterer — Custom Leather & Fabric (Albany)

Hours: (full-time, 40hrs/wk) M-Th, 8 am – 5 pm | Fr, 8 am – 2:30 pm(regular OT expected included weekends as needed)

Location:This position is located in Albany, NY – onsite work is required

Status:Hourly, Non-exempt

Pay Range:$23 - $35 Compensation based on Experience

The Upholsterer at Digifabshop is responsible forthemanufacture, upholstery, and inventory of all cushion projects in the shop as well as custom leather andfabricupholstery work asrequired. Primary responsibilities include: Cuts and assembles all foam and cardboard cushion parts according to shop designs

Sorts leather hides for different uses according to shop-developed standards of quality and acceptability

Cuts leather hides into cushion pieces using templates and razor blades

Sew pieces of fabric and leather together with industrial sewing machine

Stretches and staples pieces of fabric and leather onto cushion bodies

Maintains all fabrics, leather,notionsand equipment in an organized manner

Sprays finishes and adhesives on cushions and cushion components with HVLP spray gun

Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and plans to ensureaccurateexecution of designs.

Materials Selection: Chooseappropriate woodmaterials, veneers, and hardware for each project, considering durability, aesthetics, and budget constraints.

Quality Control:Monitor machine performance and conduct regular quality checks on finishedproducts to ensure precision and adherence to specifications.

Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery and tools to keep them inoptimalworkingcondition.

Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, including the safe operation ofmachinestools and equipment, and report any safety issues or concerns.

Documentation:Maintainaccuraterecords of machine settings, maintenance activities, and production data.

Collaboration: Work closely with team members, including designers and production managers, to achieve project goals and meet client expectations.

Required Skills and Abilities: Uses basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to solve problems as well as a working knowledge of fractions and decimals

Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents

Well-organized. Able to work independently and efficiently using strong time management and problem-solving skills.

Balances quality and timeliness while carrying out shop assignments

Gives full attention to what other people are saying, takes time to understand the points being made, asks questions as appropriate

Proficient in use of electronic communication such as email, as well aspayroll and HR software platforms

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics

Strong measurement and mathematical skills for precise cutting and assembly

Ability to performaccuratecalculations for dimensions and materials

Knowledge ofdifferent materialsand their handling requirements

Attention to detail and commitment to precision.

Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Physical stamina and the ability to lift and handle materials.

Safety-conscious mindset.

Physical Requirements: The ability to stand continuously for up to 2 hours at a time.

The ability tolift upto 75 lbs.frequentlyand repeatedly.

Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises. Employeesare always required towear P.P.E. while on the manufacturing floor.
