Responsibilities As a
Personal Lines Underwriter
you will be responsible for transactional underwriting and functions associated with underwriting risks on behalf of Berkley One. In our rapidly growing environment, new business is the focus of the Underwriter’s day at Berkley One. We'll trust you to use your excellent experience and decision-making skills to seek the most profitable business. To be successful, you'll need to possess empathy and understanding of the needs of our customers, both insureds and their agents alike. These stakeholders will view you as an excellent, pro‑active advocate for Berkley One customers whose passionate about their brand experience.

We'll count on you to:
Protect our portfolio by collaborating with risk management to identify and recommend solutions that ultimately make the risk better than when it started.
Innovate with the team and larger organization to effect the changes you want to see whether it be in the day to day or larger organization priorities
Partner with a designated group of agents with focus on individuals and creating Berkley One champions by building strong relationships, coaching on new business solutions, and taking time to understand what’s most important to the agent and client.
Consult and help agents understand our appetite and apply that knowledge to risk selection.
Utilize our cutting‑edge technology tools that help you monitor the quality of your book of business and use the knowledge in your individual decisions.
Collaborate with Distribution and Marketing colleagues to co‑create plans that drive the business.
Qualifications What you need to have:
Bachelors degree or commensurate experience
Minimum 2+ years of
high net worth personal lines underwriting
experience
Ability to travel as needed, including overnight travel
Flexibility to work an alternate work schedule including coverage for West Coast customers
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and excellent technology skills
An analytical mind. You love to dive into the details of an account in order to craft pricing and coverage that meet underwriting guidelines, profitability models and customer needs
A strong customer service bias. You want to get to yes. You are known for your super responsiveness. You can say no and preserve your relationships.
Natural curiosity. You love learning how things work and you are always looking for innovative improvements

Base Salary Range: $75,000 – 115,000

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
