The Tax Criminal Investigations Division is looking to fill one (1) Tax Criminal Investigations Agent position to work in the Central Region of the State.

Responsibilities

Conduct criminal investigations of tax violations.

Gather evidence, perform surveillance, undercover operations, and interviews.

Serve warrants and testify in court proceedings.

Access and analyze data from law enforcement databases.

Prepare detailed case reports and support legal prosecutions.

Conduct tax inspections, deliver assessments, and assist with audits.

Qualifications To be considered for this position, applicants must possess and document the following minimum qualifications on their applications:

Possession of an active certificate for having successfully completed an approved Ohio basic peace officer training program (OPOTA certificate issued by the Attorney General), or completion of 20 years of active duty as a peace officer per Section 109.78(D) of the Ohio Revised Code. Applicants must attach a scanned copy of your OPOTA certificate to this application before submitting.

Either 2 years’ training or 2 years’ experience in law enforcement or a comparable field (e.g., a criminal justice associate's degree or 2 years’ experience as a law enforcement agent). Applicants with relevant degrees must attach unofficial academic transcripts to their application before submitting.

A valid driver’s license. Applicants must attach a legible, scanned copy of their driver’s license to this application before submitting.

OR equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

NOTE: You must attach documentation of your valid OPOTA certificate, driver’s license, and academic transcripts (if necessary) to this application to be considered for this position. Certificates documenting completion of an approved basic peace officer training program must be issued by the Ohio Attorney General.

Probationary Period Probationary period is one year. The final applicant must successfully pass background checks required by appointing authority. The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per section 123:1-76-09 of the Ohio Administrative Code.

Training and Development Requirements Requires travel; operates police-type emergency vehicle; exposed to confined areas when conducting surveillance for hours; may be exposed to physical harm during raids & searches & while serving warrants & subpoenas; exposed to varying weather conditions & fluctuations in working hours while making arrest; requires working undercover or covertly.

NOTE: Applicants/Incumbents subject to enforcement background checks and safety sensitive pre‑employment & random drug testing.

Supplemental Information Selection Process

When a position becomes available a job vacancy notification is posted.

The vacancy notice lists the required qualifications, skills, abilities required and duties of the position according to the class specification and position description.

Applications are reviewed to ensure they meet the minimum qualifications.

Qualified applicants are contacted and an interview is scheduled.

All interview questions must be approved through Human Resources to ensure job relatedness.

Applicants are verbally advised of the structured interview process.

At the conclusion of the interview an estimate is given regarding the expected duration of the remaining steps of the selection process.

Based on the results of the structured interviews, the Chief of Criminal Investigations makes a recommendation and sends it to Human Resources Administrator.

Approval is contingent upon the completion of all background investigations, medical, psychological and drug testing examinations.

The E.E.O. Officer will also review the recommendation.

The Tax Commissioner has the final authority to approve the selection.

All applicants meeting minimum qualifications and not selected are notified in writing by HR.

Applications remain active in this agency for six months.
