Job Description: Department: Deli Reports To: Deli Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: Under supervision of the Deli Manager and Assistant Deli Manager, the Deli Clerk is responsible for greeting and interacting with guests, communicating with guests regarding taking and filling orders. Weighing, packaging, and labeling products correctly , The cashier will ensure all of the guest’s product purchases have been accurately paid for and, upon completion of the transaction, returned to them appropriately. Furthermore, Checkers are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of their workstations and surrounding areas. Checkers serve to provide our guests with quality shopping experiences through being socially engaging, friendly, and conscientious. Job Distinctions: The Checker differs from other jobs in the front-end department in the sense that they do not provide any lead or supervisory functions, operate or manage the service desk, or make any decisions pertaining to refunds. Cashiers will connect customers with these concerns to the service desk. Core Competencies: Guest Focus – Attending to the needs and expectations of guests Oral Communication – Engaging effectively in dialogue Attention to Detail – Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work products Teamwork – Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals Manual Dexterity – Using senses, hands, and fingers in manipulating objects quickly and efficiently Adaptability – Responding positively to change and modifying behavior as the situation requires Mathematical Facility – Performing computations and solving mathematical problems Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications Fact Finding – Obtaining facts and data pertaining to an issue or question Handling Stress – Maintaining emotional stability and self-control under pressure, challenge, or adversity Respectful Environment – Behaving and working in ways that are conducive to safe, kind, courteous, professional, and respectful atmospheres Examples of Job Tasks Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits Answer customers' questions, and provide information on procedures or policies Help customers find the location of products Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers Ensure that financial exchanges are consistent with what is in the till and what is in the system Stands in checkstand area to process transactions Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge: Mathematics – knowledge of basic arithmetic and their applications. Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of various produce items and produce codes Skills: Service Orientation – Actively looking for ways to help people. Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the questions as appropriate , and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Speaking – Talking to others to convey information effectively. Mathematics – Using mathematics efficiently and accurately. Social Perceptiveness – being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
