Job Summary & Responsibilities The Corporate Derivatives Underwriting (CDU) team serves as the central underwriting and risk function for interest rate, foreign exchange, and credit derivative transactions executed by corporate, financial sponsor, government, and financial institution clients of the Global Banking & Markets (GBM) division. CDU is responsible for developing independent credit views on derivative exposure, assessing transaction structure and legal documentation, and coordinating closely with Sales, Credit Risk Management, and Legal and Derivatives Documentation teams to support timely, well‑reasoned credit approval decisions. Client activity spans strategic transactions such as M&A and financings, as well as ongoing risk management programs.

Primary Responsibilities The Associate will act as a primary underwriter on a broad range of transactions, taking ownership of the underwriting process from initial engagement through credit approval. This includes developing independent credit views, identifying key risks and mitigants, coordinating cross‑functionally with Sales, Credit Risk, Legal and Derivative Documentation teams, and exercising sound judgment in fast‑moving and complex situations.

Associates are expected to go beyond summarization, applying rigorous analytical judgment to assess credit quality, challenge assumptions where appropriate, and articulate clear, well‑reasoned recommendations in underwriting memoranda.

Associates should develop and maintain a strong knowledge of derivative products, exposure profiles, and legal documentation (including ISDA Master Agreements, schedules, CSAs, Guarantees, and Credit Agreements), and understand how documentation terms affect credit outcomes and risk.

Associates are expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, templates, and training materials, support onboarding and development of junior team members, and act as a trusted point of contact for internal stakeholders across regions and products.
