Overview The Building Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and improvement of the company’s facilities infrastructure, ensuring safety, functionality, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role includes hands‑on management of building systems, equipment, and physical assets, as well as planning for upgrades and preventative maintenance to support the company’s operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repairs:

Oversee and conduct routine maintenance and repair of facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural components.

Ensure all equipment and systems function safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to minimize downtime.

Document work completed and communicate to Chief Building Engineer.

Facility Upgrades and Improvements:

Identify opportunities for system upgrades, replacements, or improvements that increase efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Coordinate with vendors and contractors for facility projects, ensuring quality control and compliance with project timelines.

Evaluate and recommend energy‑saving measures and sustainability improvements.

Preventative Maintenance Planning:

Complete a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all facility systems and equipment.

Complete maintenance schedules, inspection logs, and work orders to ensure compliance and reliability.

Conduct regular inspections and safety checks to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

Ensure facilities meet all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA, fire codes, environmental standards, and building codes.

Perform safety protocols and procedures for all facility-related activities.

Participate in safety drills, audits, and emergency response planning.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma.

Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in facilities engineering, building operations, or similar role.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building management systems. Proficient in CAD, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), and/or building automation software.

Certifications: Safety, HVAC and/or other specialty accreditation preferred.

Communication and Leadership Skills: Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with other departments. Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Working Conditions

Willingness to be on‑call for emergencies and to work non‑standard hours when necessary.

Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks and inspect facilities, including standing, climbing, and lifting as needed.

Possess valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Position dress code requires steel toed shoes/boots, long pants, and Southtree engineering shirt.
