
Director of Engineering - Massachusetts

Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Engineering to lead and optimize the engineering and design function within an engineer-to-order manufacturing environment. This individual will focus on reducing design errors, standardizing processes, and delivering scalable, manufacturable, and market-driven product designs. The role will also drive innovation in product development, optimize workflow from sales support through shop-floor delivery, and align engineering output with manufacturing capabilities and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the engineering team in design, drafting, and technical project execution, ensuring adherence to standards, building codes, and company best practices.
Reduce design and drafting errors from 6.1% to below 2.5% within the first year.
Develop standardized processes to support daily engineering output of $100,000+, improving efficiency and accuracy.
Design and implement scalable product systems, including a marketable sliding entry gate chassis adaptable to CPVC or wood for 10’–20’ openings.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, estimating, and manufacturing teams to optimize design for manufacturability and margin growth.
Maintain disciplined design documentation, file storage, naming conventions, and standardized design libraries.
Evaluate and leverage subcontracted engineering resources to reduce lead times and accelerate stamped approvals.
Troubleshoot complex design and CAD platform issues, ensuring seamless workflow.
Qualifications
Proven leadership experience in engineering within a $30M+ revenue, engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.
Strong proficiency in CAD/design software, design standards, and manufacturing processes.
Track record of process improvement, standardization, and delivering scalable, market-driven designs.
Excellent cross-functional collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strategic mindset with the ability to align engineering initiatives with business objectives.
