POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Secondary Academic Systems & Accountability provides strategic leadership and oversight for instruction and academic programming across grades 6–12. This position ensures alignment of instructional practices with district goals, state standards, and evidence-based best practices to improve student achievement and close opportunity gaps. The Director works collaboratively with principals, instructional leaders, teachers, and district administrators to build coherent systems of support that promote rigorous instruction, equitable access, and continuous improvement at the secondary level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Leadership
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional practices for grades 6–12.
Ensure alignment of instructional practices with state standards and district priorities.
Audit PLC cycles to ensure teams adjust instruction based on high-effect strategies (e.g., teacher credibility, feedback, student self-assessment).
Lead "Instructional Rounds" with principals, modeling best practice and coaching principals on assertive yet compassionate feedback to teachers.
Promote high-quality instructional strategies that support diverse learners and increase student engagement and achievement.
Map how the Graduate Profile, PLC process, and Appraisal system fit within the framework.
Guide implementation of district initiatives related to literacy, mathematics, career readiness, and college preparation.
Assessment and Data Systems
Oversee district assessment systems at the secondary level, including formative, interim, and summative measures.
Lead data analysis processes to inform instructional decisions and planning.
Support schools in using data to monitor progress and close achievement gaps.
Professional Learning
Design and assist the Director of Professional Development in planning professional learning aligned to district instructional priorities.
Support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and secondary instructional collaboration.
Equity and Student Support
Ensure instructional systems address the needs of all students, including multilingual learners, students with disabilities, gifted learners, and historically underserved populations.
Collaborate with student services and special education leadership to ensure instructional alignment and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Promote culturally responsive instructional practices.
Leadership and Collaboration
Serve as a member of the district leadership team.
Collaborate with elementary instructional leadership to ensure PreK–12 alignment.
Partner with community stakeholders, higher education institutions, and workforce organizations to strengthen secondary outcomes.
Support school improvement planning and accreditation processes.
Compliance and Accountability
Ensure compliance with state and federal instructional requirements.
Monitor implementation of instructional programs and provide feedback and support.
Assist with reporting requirements related to academic performance and improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS Education
Master's degree required.
Valid administrative license appropriate for district-level leadership.
Experience
Successful experience as a middle or high school principal is preferred.
Demonstrated success in improving student achievement at the middle and/or high school level.
Experience leading curriculum, instruction, and assessment initiatives.
Strong background in data analysis and school improvement planning.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep understanding of secondary instructional best practices.
Knowledge of state standards, assessment systems, and accountability requirements.
Ability to lead change and build collaborative systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to analyze complex systems and implement strategic solutions.
