Must currently reside in Portland, Oregon; relocation is not being considered for this role.
Mixte is a community-driven communications agency whose only goal is justice, health and freedom for all people. We partner with bold leaders—nonprofits, advocacy groups and mission-driven organizations—who challenge the status quo and fight for justice. A LITTLE ABOUT YOU
You are dedicated to social justice –both in your local community and broader.
You live in Portland and have extensive experience in or familiarity with Oregon’s rural communities.
You are Spanish/English bilingual and have a strong familiarity working with immigrant and Indigenous communities, local and state lawmakers, and the state’s political spectrums. You know the leaders in BIPOC- and queer-communities, not because you’ve read about them, but because you’ve stood alongside them.
You’ve worked at big companies, but you want to be a part of a small and nimble team.
Your tenure with other employers – both the good and the bad – has allowed you to crystallize exactly what you’re looking for in your next career.
You love leading strategy and implementing comms – no task is too small for you.
COMPENSATION & CULTURE
This role reports directly to a company principal.
Salary for all director-level positions is $105,000.
Lead approximately 6-7 accounts in Oregon and develop trusting, long-term relationships with clients who renew contracts year over year.
Use your emotional intelligence to foresee and respond to client concerns before they materialize into something bigger.
Collaborate to develop solutions for necessary processes, noticeable trends, company-wide systems, shared client needs, team needs and more.
Find technological solutions to day-to-day challenges so we can work smarter, not harder.
Engage in advocacy actions that matter to you and build relationships within your local community as part of building Mixte’s brand awareness in Oregon.
Engage in financial, operational and HR conversations as it pertains to success in Oregon.
CREATIVE WORK
Oversee the development of communications deliverables that align with client and Mixte strategic plans, including but not limited to:
Mixte’s Momentum Model
Campaign strategies
Messaging frameworks
Creative assets (videos, gifs, photography, social content, creative campaigns)
All forms of written content (think everything from press releases to newsletters and social media posts)
Eventually oversee a team of one to two strategists focused on work in Oregon (the role is initially individual until the client work builds).
Push the envelope and see your work as outside-the-box catalyst for social change .
Ensure all work meets Mixte’s standard for quality-of-work .
BUSINESS GROWTH
Cultivate and earn new business for the company. Each director has specific revenue goals for the department as well as outreach goals for each team member to achieve.
REQUIREMENTS
You are located in Portland and involved with the local community.
Understanding of Oregon’s immigrant, native, queer and rural communities, housing and homelessness, and worker rights.
At least 7 years working at a communications agency leading accounts.
At least 7 years implementing public relations and digital communications.
Previous experience and comfort working 100% remotely.
History of developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
Outstanding leadership, program management and organizational skills.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Experience in Asana, Slack, Microsoft, Google Workspace and AI-related platforms .
Spanish and English language proficiency.
