Role: We’re seeking a Freelance Digital Designer with strong expertise in Shopify and DTC e‑commerce UX/UI design. This is a freelance, project‑based role (not full‑time). You’ll collaborate closely with our team to design and strategise e‑commerce experiences, expand digital style guides, and apply UX best practices across all deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

Concept and design engaging e‑commerce experiences for Shopify DTC brands

Create key UX deliverables including strategy decks, sitemaps, and wireframes

Translate briefs into high‑quality, functional designs aligned with client goals and audiences

Lead or support client meetings and workshops when needed

Advise clients on e‑commerce and UX best practices

Collaborate with creative, development, and project management teams throughout the process

Create detailed annotations and responsive designs for handoff

Build and maintain comprehensive Figma style guides and component libraries

Qualifications

4+ years of agency or freelance experience in digital design

Experience with CPG brands (food & beverage, skincare & beauty, supplements)

Experience with Shopify Themes is a plus

Proficient in Figma (including prototyping and component systems)

Deep understanding of UX/UI best practices for e‑commerce

Strong communication skills and ability to clearly present design decisions

Self‑managed and proactive, with strong organization and attention to detail

Comfortable working asynchronously in a remote‑first environment

This role will oversee a team of specialists spanning CRO, retention marketing, SEO, and GEO, ensuring that strategic recommendations are cohesive, data‑informed, and deeply connected to the broader business goals of the brands we serve.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of strategists across CRO, retention, SEO, and GEO disciplines, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development support

Establish and maintain strategic standards and frameworks that ensure consistency and quality across all client engagements

Partner with account and project teams to translate client business objectives into actionable strategic roadmaps

Conduct strategic reviews of ongoing work to identify opportunities for optimisation, cross‑channel integration, and improved performance

Stay current on industry trends, platform changes, and emerging best practices in e‑commerce, CPG, and omnichannel retail

Contribute to new business efforts by shaping strategic approaches for pitches and proposals

Skills

Deep understanding of e‑commerce retention strategies, including email and SMS lifecycle marketing, loyalty programmes, and subscription models

Familiarity with omnichannel dynamics for CPG brands and how DTC, retail, wholesale, and marketplace channels interact and influence each other

Strong communication skills with the ability to present strategic recommendations to senior client stakeholders

Experience

7+ years in digital strategy, e‑commerce, or performance marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role

Experience overseeing or collaborating closely with specialists in CRO, SEO, paid media, or analytics

Direct experience working with CPG brands or other e‑commerce verticals showing the full complexity of the customer journey across channels (a plus)

Track record of managing ongoing client relationships that have led to measurable results (e.g., retained accounts, expanded scopes)

Project Manager – Shopify Ecommerce Barrel partners with CPG brands to elevate their online presence and drive growth through e‑commerce, website optimisation, email, SEO, and content strategy. This role will lead Shopify e‑commerce projects from inception to launch, ensuring seamless execution across design, development, and integration phases.

Key Responsibilities

Define and document clear project plans, timelines, and milestones for Shopify builds and integrations

Work closely with software engineers and QA to establish an execution strategy, ensuring the right technical solutions are chosen

Ensure all project requirements—features, integrations, theme customisations—are clearly defined and documented

Maintain a detailed understanding of effort estimation, resource allocation, and technical feasibility for each project

Proactively manage scope, ensuring out‑of‑scope requests are either reined in or processed via formal change orders

Act as the primary liaison between clients, developers, designers, and stakeholders, providing proactive communication of status, priorities, next steps, and risks

Ensure detailed and organised documentation in project management tools, tickets, and client communications

Surface and escalates risks early to prevent delays or budget overruns

Monitor project progress and course‑correct as needed to maintain schedules and budgets

Ensure a defect‑free launch process, coordinating testing, bug tracking, and resolution efforts

Skills

Working knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem, including platform features, apps, and integrations

Analytical mindset, intellectual curiosity to seek context and insight behind numbers, strong business acumen

Thrives in a fast‑paced environment with multiple clients and projects, balancing competing priorities effectively

Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal)

Experience

3‑5 years in an e‑commerce environment, ideally as a Project Manager, e‑commerce Manager, or similar

Agency experience a plus

Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing or a related field

The role is on a retainer basis, focusing on e‑commerce experiences, web/mobile apps, extending visual guidelines, and researching and applying e‑commerce best practices across all designs.

Key Responsibilities

Ideate and execute on creative concepts

Create conceptual and practical designs that map back to the client’s business goals, audience, and verticals

Maintain high standards among the team and ensure only the best work is shared with the client

Confidently lead client meetings and workshops as requested

Delegate tasks and support junior team members

Challenge clients on their requirements and advise on best practices

Take briefs from the account team into execution and contribute to the process with internal and client teams

Provide scoping estimates for new and ongoing client work as requested

Experiment with new tools, technologies, and prototypes with existing ones, encouraging the same in the team

Provide thoughtful and constructive feedback during presentations and critiques of junior team members’ work

Skills Required

At least 4+ years of agency experience preferred, with expertise in digital design (product design experience is a bonus)

Solid knowledge of industry tools and understanding of designing intuitive, responsive user experiences

Strong digital and web vocabulary; can speak confidently to clients about web platforms, design functionality, and implementation

Work efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines, always aware of budgets and time spent

Strong project management and organisational skills, confidently communicating with external teams and clients

Clear and concise verbal and written communication

Meticulous attention to detail in all deliverables

Foresight to anticipate challenges and proactively plan ahead to meet deadlines
