Work Shift Job Description The Opportunity As the senior HR leader for the hospital, you will serve as a key member of the leadership team and a trusted advisor to the CEO. The reporting relationship for the role is matrixed to the Charleston Division HR Executive and the Orangeburg CEO. You will lead the full spectrum of Human Resources and Employee Health operations while driving a comprehensive people strategy focused on:
Strengthening organizational culture and engagement
Improving retention and workforce stability
Elevating leadership effectiveness and accountability
Ensuring competitive, equitable compensation and benefits
Building strong talent pipelines and succession plans
Enhancing employee relations and trust across the organization
This role is both strategic and operational. You will set direction and you will roll up your sleeves to make change happen.
What You Will Lead Culture & Engagement Transformation
Assess and reshape organizational culture to improve trust, accountability, and performance
Implement measurable retention and engagement strategies
Partner with leaders to build high‑performing, aligned teams
Strategic Workforce Planning
In conjunction with the Talent Acquisition COE, develop staffing strategies aligned with hospital growth and financial realities
Improve recruitment effectiveness and employment branding
Drive succession planning and leadership development initiatives
Compensation, Benefits & Total Rewards
Partnering with the Total Rewards COE, ensure market‑competitive, fiscally responsible wage and salary programs aligned with retention and performance goals.
Oversee benefits administration
Employee Relations & Compliance
Foster a fair, consistent, and legally compliant workplace
Strengthen manager capability in performance management and coaching
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
HR & Employee Health Operations
Lead all HR and Employee Health team members
Oversee department operating and capital budgets
Modernize systems, processes, and service delivery models
Establish clear performance metrics and accountability within the HR function

A change leader comfortable addressing difficult issues with clarity and fairness

Highly visible, approachable, and grounded in service
Additional Job Description Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
Minimum 8 years of progressive HR generalist experience, including at least 5 years in an HR management role within healthcare
Demonstrated experience in employee relations, compensation strategy, workforce planning, performance management, and compliance
Strong internal consulting, communication, and leadership skills
Preferred:
Master’s degree
PHR or SPHR certification
Experience leading HR in a hospital or complex healthcare environment
Track record of improving retention and engagement metrics
Scope of Leadership
Direct oversight of Human Resources and Employee Health, while working in conjunction with a Center of Excellence model.
Responsibility for department operating budgets
Executive‑level influence on hospital‑wide initiatives

Physical & Mental Requirements The role requires the ability to perform standard office activities including sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds). The position requires strong analytical capability, discretion in handling sensitive matters, and the ability to interpret complex regulatory, financial, and clinical information.
