Position Summary Santa Cruz Post Acute is seeking an organized and detail‑oriented Medical Records Director to oversee and manage all aspects of the medical records department. This role ensures the accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance of resident medical records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records for all residents
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations
Oversee admission, discharge, and transfer documentation processes
Audit medical records regularly for accuracy and completeness
Coordinate with nursing, therapy, and administrative staff regarding documentation requirements
Prepare medical records for surveys, audits, and regulatory reviews
Manage release of information requests in accordance with policy
Train and support staff on proper documentation practices
Qualifications
Previous experience in medical records management, preferably in a skilled nursing or post‑acute setting
Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare documentation regulations
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Proficient with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
