Position Overview The Concrete Director of Operations will manage all activities related to the daily operations for twenty plants producing approximately 400,000 cubic yards. In addition, this role will manage all concrete drivers and oversee a wide variety of tasks related to transportation activities. Additional responsibility will include safety, production, quality control and ensuring effective execution of company performance and growth strategy . Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams. Classification: Monthly Salaried.

Location This role can be based out of any of our office in New Hampshire or Vermont. Occasional travel may be required between the multiple locations across our operating states.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Safety

Oversee and participate in Safety Committee meetings/activities, Toolbox Talks, and other Company policies and key initiatives.

Responsible for ensuring employees are engaged in safety and assessing risks.

Promote a safe work environment and ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA, MUTCD Manual and applicable DOT specifications.

Implement and promote the Corporate Safety, Health & Environmental Plan; apply to field operations on various projects.

Operations

Executes operating plans and tactics to attain short-and long-term financial and mission critical operations goals.

Lead teams in performance management, recruitment and hiring, training and development, and succession planning.

Analyzing financial performance and developing action plans identifying corrective actions, developing process controls, and establishing key performance measures.

Evaluates and optimizes current and proposed operations systems and procedures to gain efficiencies and minimize risk.

Assist the General Manager with identifying capex projects, estimating their costs, generating the proposal, and completing the project.

Ensure that all operations are in full compliance with federal and state regulations, including OSHA, DEP.

Collaborate with other divisional personnel (Area Managers, Equipment Manager, administration, delivery, construction, and sales staff) to maximize regional profits and minimize conflicts.

Ensures compliance with standards and regulations for all operations.

Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist with Interviewing and hiring process, as necessary.

Planning, assigning, and directing work.

Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.

Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.

Appraising performance, including annual evaluations.

Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.

Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

Additional Responsibilities

Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.

Strict adherence to Pike policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.

Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E.) from a four-year college; three to five years in the concrete business with specific experience in dispatch and working knowledge of delivery and plant equipment.

Previous supervisory experience.

Hands on experience in Construction Materials Production Plant (concrete, Ready-mix, asphalt) required.

General Requirements

Must have the demonstrated ability to maintain strong customer, supplier, and community relationships.

Possess solid organizational and verbal/written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with the entire workforce, customers, and community officials.

Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and work independently.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to and from the job site.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

Proficient computer skills including email, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and internet-based software programs.
