About Us:
Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (OPT) provides intelligent maritime solutions and services that enable safer, cleaner, and more productive ocean operations for the defense and security, oil and gas, science and research, and offshore wind markets.
Our technologies support persistent maritime operations through autonomous platforms, offshore power generation, and maritime domain awareness systems. OPT works closely with defense and security organizations to enable long-duration maritime sensing, autonomous operations, and resilient ocean infrastructure in contested and infrastructure-limited environments.
The Company’s headquarters is in Monroe Township, New Jersey with an additional office in Richmond, California.
The Role:
Ocean Power Technologies is seeking a results-driven Director, Commercial Business Development & Sales to expand the company’s presence across offshore oil and gas, offshore wind, and marine survey markets. This role is focused on delivering autonomous maritime and offshore power solutions that support real-world operations, including offshore monitoring, site characterization, inspection, and survey activities. The Director will be responsible for identifying, shaping, and closing opportunities to drive bookings and revenue growth, while positioning OPT’s solutions to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and deliver measurable operational value. This role sits at the intersection of increasing demand for offshore data, cost-efficient operations, and the growing adoption of autonomous and remotely operated solutions across the energy sector.

Candidates who thrive in fast-moving environments and are motivated to scale emerging maritime autonomy and offshore power solutions into commercial operations will be particularly successful in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and execute a commercial sales strategy across offshore oil and gas, offshore wind, and marine survey markets, building and growing a qualified pipeline with clear accountability for bookings and revenue generation targets.

Build deep relationships with commercial operators, project stakeholders, and procurement teams to gain intimate understanding of customer operations, priorities, and buying processes.
Lead opportunity capture, proposal development, and contract negotiations in coordination with internal teams to advance deals from initial engagement through award.
Position OPT’s solutions to address customer needs in offshore monitoring, inspection, survey, and data collection to support successful project outcomes.
Lead and support customer engagements including meetings, industry events, and field demonstrations to advance pipeline and close opportunities.
Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to inform strategy, positioning, and future growth opportunities.
Contribute to the continued growth and scaling of OPT’s commercial business through consistent pipeline development and revenue delivery.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
7–12 years of experience in commercial sales, business development, or account management within offshore energy, marine services, or related industries.
Demonstrated success selling solutions into oil and gas, offshore wind, or marine survey markets.
Strong understanding of offshore operations, project lifecycles, and commercial contracting processes.
Experience engaging commercial operators, project teams, and procurement organizations.
Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to travel as required to support customer engagement and field operations.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with autonomous systems, uncrewed platforms, marine robotics, or offshore technologies.
Background supporting offshore survey, subsea operations, or inspection services.
Experience working with offshore wind developers, oil and gas operators, or marine survey firms.
Experience supporting pilot programs, field demonstrations, or new technology deployments.
