TITLE: Chief Strategy & Growth Officer

REPORTS TO: President & Chief Executive Officer

STATUS: Regular, Full-time, Executive Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Chief Strategy & Growth Officer (CSGO) serves as a key member of the Foundation’s leadership team and works in close partnership with the President and CEO to develop, refine and execute the Foundation’s strategic priorities. The CSGO is responsible for advancing organizational growth, deepening stakeholder relationships, guiding strategic initiatives and overseeing designated operational and administrative functions in alignment with the Foundation’s mission and long-term impact goals. The CSGO supports the Foundation’s mission by providing excellent service to internal and external constituents, fostering cross functional collaboration and strengthening the Foundation’s visibility, partnerships and policy engagement across Central New York and beyond.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning and Execution Partner with the President and CEO and Leadership Team to develop, refine and implement the Foundation’s strategic plan.

Translate strategic priorities into measurable goals, timelines and accountability structures across departments.

Establish and support decision making processes that enable timely and effective responses to emerging opportunities.

Monitor progress on strategic initiatives and provide regular updates to the CEO and board of directors Central New York Innovation and Growth Initiative.

Strategic Growth and Special Initiatives Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for the Central New York Innovation and Growth Initiative’s federally supported workforce development partnership and related initiatives.

Ensure implementation of the Workforce Development Plan, stewardship of grantmaking strategy, performance monitoring, compliance with contractual and reporting requirements, and coordination with sub-intermediaries, strategic partners and other key stakeholders, while advancing the long-term strategic development and sustainability of CNYIGI.

Drive the development and launch of major strategic growth initiatives, including cross sector partnerships and special projects designed to expand the Foundation’s reach, assets and community impact.

Evaluate new opportunities for innovation, partnerships and programmatic growth consistent with the Foundation’s mission and values.

Develop business cases, implementation plans and performance metrics for new initiatives.

Stakeholder and External Relations Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including civic leaders, nonprofit partners, professional advisors, donors, elected officials and national philanthropic peers.

Represent the Foundation in community, regional and national forums as assigned by the President and CEO.

Support development of strategies to enhance the Foundation’s visibility, influence and reputation.

Government and Public Policy Engagement Develop and manage the Foundation’s policy agenda in partnership with the President and CEO and leadership team.

Monitor relevant legislative and regulatory developments and assess their implications for the Foundation and the communities it serves.

Build and maintain productive relationships with local, state and federal government officials and agencies.

Organizational Leadership and Supervision Leads organization wide digital, data, and innovation strategy- aligning AI modernization, governance, systems integration, analytics and cybersecurity with the Foundation & CNYIGI growth priorities, strategic initiatives and operational effectiveness.

Serve as a member of the Foundation’s executive leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, culture and performance management.

Provide supervision, coaching and performance management for assigned staff and departments, including oversight of CNYIGI, special projects and information systems staff. May assume supervisory responsibility for human resources functions and staff as organizational needs evolve.

Foster collaboration across departments to ensure alignment between strategy, operations and community impact.

Leads the development and execution of comprehensive talent management strategies including performance management, learning and development, change management, employee surveys and engagement, retention and succession, and workforce planning.

Board Engagement Support the President and CEO in developing strategic materials and presentations for the Board of Directors, relevant committees and key external stakeholder meetings.

Attend Board and committee meetings as assigned and provide strategic updates and analysis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in strategic planning, organizational development, public policy, finance, operations or related executive functions, including significant experience supervising, mentoring and developing professional staff.

Proven ability to lead organization wide strategic planning and execution efforts, including development of measurable goals, accountability structures and performance metrics.

Track record of launching and managing complex, cross functional initiatives and cultivating high level external partnerships.

Demonstrated emotional intelligence, sound judgment and political acumen, with the ability to operate effectively in complex and evolving environments.

Experience working with boards of directors and engaging effectively with senior level stakeholders, including government officials.

Experience overseeing or partnering closely with human resources functions preferred.

Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in public administration, business, law or related field preferred.

Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and operate effectively in a dynamic environment.

Computer proficiency including knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a willingness to learn all appropriate Community Foundation software.

TIME REQUIREMENT This is a full-time, executive exempt position requiring 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility. Occasionally, early, late or weekend hours are required. Tuesdays through Thursdays are designated in-office days. Staff that choose to work a hybrid work schedule may choose to do so on Mondays and/or Fridays, dependent on management approval.

SALARY & BENEFITS Salary range is $150,000-$200,000.
