Senior Manager, Walmart Energy- Portfolio Management

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Energy Portfolio Management executes Walmart’s enterprise electricity and natural gas strategy across deregulated U.S. markets. You will lead financial accountability, and cross-functional leadership to optimize costs, manage risk exposure, and support distributed energy resource integration. Operating within established hedging guardrails, the Sr. Manager drives procurement, monitors exposure and financial performance, and continuously enhances tools and processes that enable scale and strengthen portfolio performance across Walmart’s energy platform.

About the Team

The Walmart Energy team leads efforts to manage energy consumption across stores, clubs, and supply chain facilities. Focused on advancing affordable, reliable, and clean energy solutions, the team drives renewable energy deployment, energy management, and regulatory compliance initiatives. Utilizing advanced analytics and market strategies, they develop a modern energy platform that supports operational resilience and long‑term value. Collaborating across functions, the team implements energy‑saving programs and ensures alignment with evolving legislation and market demands, contributing to Walmart’s commitment to responsible energy practices and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electricity and natural gas portfolios across assigned deregulated markets.
  • Execute supply strategies (fixed, block‑and‑index, layered hedging) within defined risk guardrails; recommend procurement timing and hedge adjustments based on market and exposure analysis.
  • Monitor portfolio performance against budget and risk thresholds, tracking hedge coverage, open positions, load variability, and basis exposure; conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses.
  • Maintain dashboards and leadership reporting.
  • Lead RFPs, bid evaluation, and financial modeling for supply agreements, partner with Finance on forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Track ISO/RTO and regulatory dynamics; integrate distributed energy resources.
  • Enhance forecasting, analytics, and team capability.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of ISO/RTO market structures (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, NYISO, ISO‑NE).
  • Experience executing structured energy products such as hedging strategies, block‑and‑index agreements, or PPAs.
  • Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills (Excel required; SQL, Python, R, or BI tools preferred).
  • Experience supporting competitive energy RFPs, contract analysis, and supplier management.
  • Ability to synthesize complex market data into clear executive‑ready recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field and 4 years’ experience in utility operations or related area OR 6 years’ experience in utility operations or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field
