What You Will Do
GFT is looking for a talented
Associate Architectural Designer
to thrive within our Architecture West Area practice! This is a hybrid position, and the selected candidate will work an average of three days per week in the Seattle, Berkeley, Los Angeles, or Phoenix office.

The Associate Designer develops technical solutions with supervision from a Project Architect or Designer. This position provides design support for a wide range of project types, including new developments, renovations, and tenant improvements, on projects that serve aviation, transit, civic, institutional, and federal government clients. The Associate Designer completes routine and well‑defined assignments in collaboration with the project team, applying established design techniques, procedures, and standards.
Responsibilities
Prepares project documents including plans, details, and initial set‑up work on projects.
Gathers and records information such as product information and cut sheets to be used for cost estimating and specifications.
Supports studies and reports and assists with preparation of technical reports or sections of reports.
Assists with sheet set‑up on project drawings, drawing schedules, plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications.
Assists in reviewing and implementing redline markups on drawings and finalizing project work.
Prepares 3‑D imaging using proprietary software for client and in‑house presentations as directed by supervisor.
Learns basic code evaluation procedures and information gathering requirements for review with supervisor.
Works proficiently on their own with direction from supervisors.
Demonstrates sound judgment in knowing when to ask questions, enabling efficient progress within project timelines while minimizing interruptions to supervisors and team workflows.
Coordinates work with other team members through communication and supervision.
Follows direction, project/office standards, and implements constructive criticism to improve work product and development with supervision.
Responsible for construction administration tasks assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to submittal tasks, RFIs, supplemental work, sketches, or submittal review processes.
Education | Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
Ability to be on path for licensure as an architect in the state of residence.
Prior internship or work experience in an architectural office.
Experience working in AutoCAD and Revit/BIM for design and technical documentation.
Experience with SketchUp, Enscape, or other 3‑D modeling software is preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Good written and verbal communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
Compensation The salary range for this role is $65,000 to $85,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
