Job Details As a Consulting Labor & Employee Relations Representative in the healthcare industry, you will play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining effective labor‑management relations. This involves ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements, participating in negotiations, addressing grievances, and responding to labor‑related inquiries from a defined group of union‑represented employees. You will be part of the Labor and Employee Relations (LER) Unit, providing consultation and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees on labor and employee relations matters.
Responsibilities
Lead local negotiations and conduct supervisory training.
Represent management interests while safeguarding employee rights.
Promote proactive management practices to reduce grievances, unfair labor practice charges, discrimination claims, and employment‑related litigation.
Review and advise on business plans involving layoffs; ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
Assist managers with performance concerns, including developing performance improvement plans.
Respond to union inquiries regarding contract‑related issues such as salary increases.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct research, analyze issues, and develop recommendations.
Knowledge of labor/employment law and labor negotiation principles and techniques.
Ability to apply effective bargaining strategies to achieve successful outcomes.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws and court decisions.
Demonstrated ability to effectively represent organizational interests in labor relations matters.
Ability to manage difficult or volatile situations with professionalism and sound judgment.
Specialized knowledge within the labor relations field, as required by the position.
Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures is preferred.
In‑depth knowledge of advocacy principles for representing the organization in dispute forums is preferred.
Experience in the public sector or higher education environment is preferred.
Must be able to work in environments requiring discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
May require flexible or irregular work hours depending on operational needs.
Must successfully pass any required background checks.
