Position Summary The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities of a construction site according to project blueprints and schedule plans. Duties include coordinating subcontractors, performing quality control and safety checks, providing on‑site direction, supervising day‑to‑day activities, and assessing resources needed to complete the house project within budget.
Responsibilities
Understand and interpret all aspects of HPFH construction & design.
Read blueprints and inspect work in progress.
Ensure workmanship according to specifications.
Adhere to construction schedule and prevent delays.
Understand the use of construction related material & tools, incl. power tools.
Ensure safety standards are followed.
Develop and implement detailed schedules and production plans with budget and safety goals in mind.
Partner with Planning, Project Management, and Construction Director to supervise, direct, and coordinate management of construction projects.
Consider staffing levels and timing, taking building methodology and availability of tools and equipment into account for each phase.
Interpret specifications.
Supervise and coordinate subcontractors to monitor compliance with subcontract terms.
Confers and interacts with contractors.
Schedule inspections.
Handle permits and inspections with local authorities.
Apply great problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
Establish 'Punch List' before move‑in and ensure it is completed before closing of house.
Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Employees & Volunteers
Lead and direct employees.
Handle grievances.
Direct, assist, and motivate Construction House Leaders.
Direct volunteers according to skill level.
Prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
Coach volunteer members in use of material and tools.
Ensure that safety standards are always met during construction.
Serve as a Construction House Lead when needed.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
High School diploma or GED (equivalent experience).
Two to four years’ experience.
Advanced language skills (oral & written).
Moderate to advanced math skills.
Good interpersonal skills and a sense of community service/helping others.
Upholds organizational values & follows policies and procedures.
Takes responsibility for own actions.
Observes safety and security procedures, reports unsafe conditions, and uses equipment and materials properly.
Supports everyone’s effort to succeed.
Physical & Environmental Demands
Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., stand, squat, bend, climb, crouch, crawl, and use tools.
Ability to reach with hands and arms.
Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions (hot, humid, rain, and cold).
Moderate noise level.
