Responsibilities
The Project Estimator is responsible for assisting in preparing competitive estimates for commercial HVAC and refrigeration projects. This role is ideal for candidates with foundational knowledge of HVAC systems and a desire to build a career in mechanical estimating. You’ll work under the guidance of senior estimators and project teams to learn how to analyze plans, perform take-offs, and develop estimates. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with operations staff and other estimators to ensure that general conditions and required aspects of the project are appropriately captured in the estimate.
Review initial RFP (Request for Price) documents and take note of anything that should be verified during survey
Conduct site walks to determine scope and accuracy of drawings.
Communicate with Estimating team (Manager or Estimator) ahead of time & while on site to ensure all required information has been gathered.
Read Refrigeration Floor plans & schedule Identify equipment on floor plan & corresponding refrigeration valves/circuits in motor room Understand Refrigeration Life Cycle Perform take-offs for ductwork, piping, and equipment Generate Proposals Peer review takeoffs with senior estimators Organize and input vendor pricing and subcontractor quotes. Maintain estimate documentation and internal bid files. Coordinate with internal teams on scope validation and bidding timelines. Participate in training sessions and mentorship activities to grow technical skills.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications 5 years of Refrigeration or construction-related experience. General understanding of HVAC/R systems and terminology. Ability to read construction documents and mechanical plans. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and willing to learn estimating software. Strong math, organization, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree or coursework in HVAC/R Technology, Engineering, or Construction Management. Proficiency in Excel & VBA a Plus Internship or hands-on HVAC/R trade experience is a plus. Exposure to take-off tools or construction software (Bluebeam, Trimble, FastEst etc.). Core Competencies Willingness to learn and grow in a technical role. Attention to detail and accuracy in basic calculations. Strong time management and communication skills. Receptive to coaching and team collaboration.
