WE ARE HIRING! Join our team and become our new full-time ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising programs and activities within the Community Development Department.

Serves as the Director and Zoning Administrator in the absence of the Community Development Director.
Reviews all building permit applications and site plans and approves permits.
Reviews and approves plans and specifications for compliance with building codes and zoning ordinances.
Reviews and recommends zoning and building code changes.
Develops, recommends, and manages a multi-division operating budget.
Advises and consults with architects, contractors, and individuals on technical aspects of projects and interprets code provisions.
Selects, leads, trains, evaluates, and develops Department staff.
Develops, supervises, and carries out inspection enforcement programs.
Attends and presents at Board and other public meetings as requested.
Enforces all applicable codes and regulations and conducts periodic field inspections.
Qualified candidates should…
Have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, community/urban planning, economics/economic development, business administration, political science, architecture, or a related field.
Have at least five (5) years of experience in the construction industry (required).
Have at least four (4) years in a supervisory capacity (required).
Be certified by ICC (International Code Council) or possess a minimum of three building certifications (e.g., plan review, building, electrical, etc.)
Have thorough knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, and zoning codes and practices.
Be proficient with Microsoft Office; Tyler/EnerGov Permitting System experience strongly preferred.
Have a valid driver’s license.
Pay, benefits, and more…
Hiring range for this position is $101,918 – $142,685 (starting salary is typically no higher than the midpoint and is dependent upon qualifications)
Typical hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with evening and weekend hours as needed
