Key Responsibilities
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents to complete material takeoffs and develop construction cost estimates for substation projects.
Assist in assembling bid packages and proposals, including supporting documentation, bid forms, and preliminary schedules, and help review submissions prior to delivery.
Work with project teams to help define project scope, including engineering, construction, and contractual elements.
Produce preliminary or conceptual cost estimates when project details are limited.
Develop detailed cost estimates following project approval using company estimating standards and facility drawings.
Build project schedules and evaluate requirements for labor, materials, equipment, and tools needed for execution.
Participate in internal bid review meetings with management, project managers, and field personnel to evaluate scope, pricing, subcontractor involvement, and potential risk.
Provide cost analysis and technical insight to support both competitive bids and negotiated contracts, including participation in contract discussions when needed.
Support the development and maintenance of internal cost history databases and estimating tools to improve future project estimates.
Provide preconstruction support and technical insight to project management teams once projects move forward.
Review project documentation to identify subcontracting requirements, prepare requests for quotations, and evaluate vendor proposals for completeness and alignment with scope.
Coordinate with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to gather pricing information and clarify project requirements.
Qualifications
Approximately 3–5 years of estimating, project management, or field experience within the utility substation construction industry preferred.
Familiarity with renewable energy sectors such as solar, wind, or battery energy storage is beneficial.
Experience using estimating software, project management platforms, or similar tools.
Solid understanding of electrical systems, equipment, and construction practices related to utility infrastructure.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
