Assistant Director - Residential Program (Young Adult Recovery)

We provide a personalized, foundational, skills-based model that helps young adults pursue their individual life goals. We are looking for a passionate, detail-oriented, and innovative Assistant Program Director to join our New York City team and contribute to our goal of making a difference.

Position Summary The Assistant Program Director plays a critical leadership role in the day-to-day operations of dWELL Recovery. This position partners closely with the Program Director to ensure operational excellence, staff accountability, high-quality resident support, and a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented community environment. This hands‑on leadership role blends program management, team supervision, resident oversight, and cross‑department collaboration. The ideal candidate is organized, emotionally intelligent, and highly accountable, with strong experience in behavioral health, substance use recovery, or residential treatment settings.

What You Will Do Program Leadership & Administration

In collaboration with the Program Director, oversee the day-to-day operations of dWELL Recovery Transitional Living Program.

Develop the weekly employee schedule and ensure mandated coverage for each shift.

Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise House Managers and Resident Advisors of dWELL Recovery Transitional Living Program in collaboration with the Program Director.

Resident Support & Case Management

Collaborate with the Program Director to manage resident and family case management, including overseeing resident schedules and conducting regular ADL apartment checks to help develop and maintain client goals.

Ensure new admissions, movements, and discharges are communicated to the Transitional Living team and that protocols are completed and accurately documented.

Oversee resident medication adherence, assist with refills, and manage weekly pill organization.

Assists in providing crisis intervention as necessary.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

Attend weekly interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss clinical, financial, and organizational needs.

Work with the admissions team to ensure accurate information is communicated about bed flow, admissions, and discharges; conduct dWELL Recovery tours to families of prospective residents as needed.

Monitor the dWELL Transitional Living Program budget and expense reports; conduct Quality Assurance Reviews (audits) in collaboration with the Program Director and Operations Manager.

What You Need to Qualify

Bachelor's (required)

>MA/MS (preferred) > – either or both in a social science field.

At least 3 years of related experience with Substance Use Disorders and the 12‑Step Recovery Model.

At least 3 years of experience in an adolescent or young adult treatment center.

At least 3 years of experience in a Mental Health Facility, Program Management, and Crisis Management.

Strong supervisory or managerial experience, with a proven ability to lead and develop a team.

Strong understanding of recovery principles, trauma‑informed care, motivational approaches, and crisis intervention.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.

Ability to maintain professionalism, boundaries, and composure in a fast‑paced environment.

CPR Certification (preferred).

Schedule Mondays and Tuesdays from 8am–4pm, Wednesdays from 10am–6pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 11am–7pm. Must be able to work one Saturday or Sunday a month on rotation and provide emergency support onsite and by phone to staff in the monthly leadership rotation for on‑call coverage.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 20–40 lbs occasionally.

Ability to stand, walk, or respond quickly during emergencies.

Ability to walk multiple levels of stairs multiple times daily.

Ability to complete facility rounds and inspections.

Must be able to perform extensive standing, walking, and climbing; lift up to 50 lbs regularly and transport and stock assigned supplies and materials; bend, stoop, and climb to reach materials.

Compensation $90,000–$100,000 (commensurate with experience)
