The preferred office location is Winston‑Salem, Forsyth County. The selected candidate will also be responsible for Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties, with open seating available in those buildings.

Position Summary The Government and Community Relations Manager II (GCRM) is a community relations role for experienced professionals who have demonstrated proficiency in local government and community relations. The GCRM manages local government, business, and community relationships and issues within Duke Energy’s service territory, builds support for corporate and community objectives, and develops, implements, and monitors strategies that advance Duke Energy’s business objectives.

The GCRM shapes local public opinion and policy in the communities served by Duke Energy, maximizing public relations opportunities to enhance corporate reputation and developing enduring relationships with key community leaders and elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels.

The GCRM serves as the primary contact for issues related to the company’s operations and local community leaders during major storm events and provides strategic Foundation and community investments that align with company goals.

Responsibilities

Manage relationships with local government officials and key community leaders.

Develop and implement community engagement strategies that support Duke Energy’s objectives.

Monitor and respond to local public opinion, shaping policy at local, state, and federal levels.

Lead the District’s public relations efforts to enhance corporate reputation.

Serve as the primary contact during major storm events and coordinate with local community leaders.

Provide strategic Foundation and community investments aligned with company goals.

Operate in Winston‑Salem and the surrounding counties (Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, Yadkin).

Basic/Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Communications, Finance, Political Science, or related field AND at least 7 years of related work experience.

High School/GED AND at least 10 years of related work experience (alternative to degree).

Minimum one year experience in a local government or community relations role.

Desired Qualifications

Ability to develop comprehensive external relation plans.

Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening).

Strong organizational and company operational knowledge.

Project management experience: planning, execution, and managing competing priorities.

Interpersonal skills: building rapport with individuals at all organizational levels.

Experience in public speaking.

Political savvy and understanding of local and state political processes.

Working Conditions

Preferred office location: Winston‑Salem, Forsyth County; coverage of Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, Yadkin counties.

Attendance at early morning, night, and weekend community meetings and activities.

Extensive travel throughout the assigned territory and occasionally the state.

Availability 24/7 for storm response or other emergencies.

Hybrid mobility classification – work performed from both remote and onsite locations after onboarding; hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

3 days in office; flexible schedule.

Travel Requirements Travel within the assigned territory is required, with occasional travel throughout the state.
