Vice President, Sponsor Finance Credit Risk Officer
This leader will play a critical role in evaluating new transactions, managing ongoing credit performance, and ensuring high‑quality underwriting standards in a fast‑paced, deal‑centric environment.
Key Responsibilities Credit Underwriting & Approval: Lead credit assessments for new leveraged finance transactions, including LBOs, add‑on acquisitions, recapitalizations, and refinancings. Analyze borrower financial performance, business models, sponsor strength, and market positioning. Build and review financial models, sensitivity cases, and downside scenarios. Present detailed credit recommendations to senior credit committees.
Portfolio Risk Management: Oversee ongoing credit monitoring, including quarterly reviews, covenant compliance, and internal risk ratings. Identify early warning indicators and recommend risk mitigation strategies. Partner with relationship managers and portfolio management teams on restructurings, waivers, and amendments.
Governance & Policy: Ensure alignment with firm‑wide credit policies and regulatory requirements. Contribute to evolving credit frameworks, risk appetite definitions, and process enhancements. Maintain high‑quality documentation to support audit and regulatory examinations.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sponsor finance originators, capital markets, legal, and operations teams throughout the deal lifecycle. Serve as a subject matter expert for sponsor‑backed credit risk. Provide coaching and guidance to junior underwriting and risk staff.
Profile Qualifications 7‑12+ years of credit risk, underwriting, or leveraged finance experience within banking or private debt. Strong understanding of sponsor‑backed transactions, capital structures, and leveraged finance market dynamics. Advanced financial analysis and modeling capabilities. Proven ability to make independent, well‑supported credit decisions in a fast‑moving environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills for senior audiences. Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or other relevant credentials preferred.
