Position Information The incumbent will utilize a theoretical understanding of career development to advise students and alumni on a full range of career processes, including individual or group advising/coaching, career planning, setting career goals, decision making, and improving job search competencies. The role provides a holistic approach to student/alumni career counseling, modifies workshops and presentations as necessary, and maintains relationships with potential employers, admissions representatives, and other partner organizations to meet student career needs. The incumbent works independently while receiving guidance on developing new career advising/coaching services; counsels undergraduate and graduate students and alumni on career options and opportunities, including customized services for specific populations. The full salary range for the Industry Outreach Specialist, STEM position is $61,000 - $106,800 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $76,000 annually. The University of California requires current work authorization, and does not sponsor employment visas.

Responsibilities

Advise students and alumni on career planning techniques, decision making, and job search.

Provide coaching and counseling services for undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni, including customized services for specific populations.

Design, modify, and deliver workshops and presentations to meet student career needs.

Maintain and expand relationships with potential employers, admissions representatives, and partner organizations.

Develop new career advising/coaching services in coordination with institutional strategy.

Serve as STEM industry development lead, partnering with career specialists and aligning employer engagement with academic priorities.

Identify, cultivate, and sustain local, regional, and national employer partnerships that expand career pathways for STEM students.

Promote UCR’s academic excellence, diversity, and career‑ready graduates to industry partners.

Lead efforts to increase employer brand visibility on campus through recruitment strategies and partnership development.

Collaborate closely with the Student & College Engagement Team and academic partners to align employer engagement strategies with academic priorities and student success.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Advanced degree in a related area.

Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.

Demonstrated outreach skills and communication abilities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to deliver information clearly to students and employers.

Experience designing and modifying computer applications to meet program needs.

Skills in presenting to and engaging small to large groups.

Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.

Capability to represent the Career Center and UCR at on‑ and off‑campus events, conferences, and professional meetings.

Knowledge of needs assessment theory, workshop and program design.

Strong knowledge of analyzing reports, working with data, and assessment tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated skill in marketing within an academic environment.

Knowledge of employer engagement through social media.

Strong knowledge of career development theories and adult development theory.

Experience identifying and creating strategic partnerships with employers.

Skill in developing collaborative relationships with academic departments.

Knowledge of the Handshake system.

Familiarity with UC programs, career services, and employer recruitment methods.

Understanding of STEM industry trends and workforce needs.

Proficiency in persuasive communication and negotiation.

Ability to work with diverse employers and foster inclusive engagement efforts.
