NanoTech Materials is seeking an experienced Senior Energy Modeler to join our innovative team developing a revolutionary building energy management platform that combines advanced artificial intelligence with physics-based simulation. This role offers a unique opportunity to bridge traditional energy modeling expertise with cutting-edge AI technology, transforming how buildings are analyzed and optimized for energy performance. The Senior Energy Modeler will serve as both a production specialist—running comprehensive energy analyses through the company’s breakthrough BEM platform—and a subject matter expert, working directly with our executive leadership to enhance platform capabilities based on deep knowledge of legacy energy modeling tools and industry best practices. • Location: Houston, Texas (On-site, Hybrid, or Remote) • Reports to: CEO Primary Responsibilities Energy Modeling & Analysis (70%) Master the platform to become one of the organization's leading experts in its capabilities, workflows, and optimal use cases Execute comprehensive building energy simulations for physical buildings using our new physics-based engine Develop and analyze building energy usage against NanoTech Materials Cool Roof Coat ECM, eventually expanding to multiple Energy Conservation Measure (ECM) scenarios, including envelope improvements, HVAC system upgrades, lighting retrofits, renewable energy integration, and control optimization Review and audit the programs automatic analysis reports including EUI calculations, end-use breakdowns, peak demand analysis, cost projections, carbon emissions tracking, and financial metrics (ROI, payback periods, CO 2 reduction) Ensure all simulations comply with ASHRAE 140 standards and other applicable building energy codes Validate simulation results for accuracy and identify potential modeling errors or anomalies Maintain organized documentation of all simulations, inputs, assumptions, and results Client Communication & Interpretation (15%) Serve as primary technical point of contact for clients requiring detailed explanation of energy modeling results Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for diverse audiences (building owners, facility managers, executives, engineers) Present ECM analysis results, explain energy savings projections, and clarify financial metrics Address client questions regarding simulation assumptions, methodology, and calibration approaches Gather client feedback on report clarity and usability to inform platform improvements Platform Development Support (10%) Collaborate directly with CEO and CCO to inform the platform roadmap and feature prioritization Provide subject matter expertise on legacy energy modeling platforms (eQUEST, DOE-2, EnergyPlus, Trane TRACE etc.) to guide platform enhancements Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve accuracy, or expand analytical capabilities based on practical modeling experience Articulate industry pain points and best practices to inform product positioning and competitive differentiation Share insights on energy code compliance requirements, certification processes (LEED, ENERGY STAR), and utility incentive programs User Testing & Quality Assurance (5%) Participate in user acceptance testing of new features and functionality Document bugs, usability issues, and opportunities for interface improvements Test platform performance against known benchmarks and validation datasets (e.g., ASHRAE Standard 140 test cases) Provide feedback on AI-generated recommendations and automated workflows from a practitioner perspective Required Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Energy Engineering, or related technical field Building Energy Management certification (CEM, BEMP, BPI, or equivalent) Technical Experience Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in building energy modeling using legacy platforms including eQUEST, DOE-2, EnergyPlus, Trane TRACE, or Carrier HAP Demonstrated expertise in ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Appendix G and Standard 140 modeling methodology and compliance analysis Proven ability to model complex HVAC systems (VAV, chilled water plants, heat pumps, ground-source systems, DOAS, etc.) Experience evaluating Energy Conservation Measures across building envelope, mechanical systems, lighting, and controls Strong understanding of building thermal loads, heat transfer principles, and psychometrics Familiarity with utility rate structures, energy cost analysis, and lifecycle cost calculations Professional Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance in technical work. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting project deadlines. Comfort with learning new software platforms and adapting to evolving workflows. Demonstrated successful client interactions.
