Job Description Summary The Sales Manager sets the tone for Sonesta’s Culture of Caring. We expect leaders to focus on creating amazing moments for guests, planners, and team members, and to dig deep to find ways to create success for the hotel. The Sales Manager is responsible for executing the strategy of the hotel, as defined by the Director of Sales, to maximize group revenues, occupancy, and market share for the hotel. The Sales Manager will uncover new opportunities, foster and maintain client relationships, and creating and implementing specific account and/or segment-based sales strategies and tactical plans. The Sales Manager will work directly with the Director of Sales and sales team.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients. Manage according to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service in all associates of the hotel.

Achieve personal and team goals as assigned

Prospect, solicit, negotiate, and book new and repeat business within deployment to ensure maximization of revenue to achieve budgeted revenue goals.

Utilize both direct sales strategies and inside sales strategies to develop new accounts, maintain existing accounts, and develop new relationships

Monitor and handle inquiry calls and provide client proposals in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures

Arrange and conduct special events, site inspections, and off-site presentations for potential clients

Attend sales, revenue, and department meetings as appropriate

Create and implement hotel-level tactical sales plans that drive measurable incremental occupancy, increase average rates, increase business volume during off-peak periods.

Enhance the image of the hotel in local community.

Deliver sales activities/performance to ensure actual sales exceed the established revenue plan.

Analyze current/potential market and sales trends and coordinate all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and increased rate.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with officials and representatives of local community groups.

Act as “Manager on duty” as required.

Attend Evening Social and Breakfast events as a representative of the management team of the hotel and to prospect for additional sales leads as required.

Perform any other job-related duties as assigned

Specific Job Knowledge & Skills

2 years of hotel-related sales experience required. Experience with Catering preferred

1 year of sales experience in a 4-Diamond hotel with 8,000+sqft of function space is preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

High school degree or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree preferred

Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English, other languages beneficial.

Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments

Delphi FDC and Opera PMS experience a plus

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Valid driver’s license required.

Carrying, lifting or pulling items weighing up to 25 pounds.
