
Process Designer

Position Summary
The Process Designer is responsible for designing hygienic process systems for the Food, Dairy and Beverage, Personal Care, Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Nutraceutical industries, overseeing process skids and piping projects from start to finish. Meeting with customers, developing scope, designing, and assisting in bidding of potential projects will be commonplace. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously as well as manage projects in‑house. In addition, this position requires excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills for corresponding with co‑workers as well as external customers and vendors. Some overnight and/or weekend travel will be required.

Primary Functions (not an all Inclusive List)
Proficient in providing sound decisions that are well aligned with the corporate goals.
Must be proficient in the engineering, design, and implementation of FDA‑compliant fluid processing systems. Perform designs for systems such as pasteurization, sanitization and clean‑in‑place, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and sanitary process equipment.
Support Sales by meeting with customers to discuss potential projects.
Ability to understand the function of all sanitary equipment on the market.
Process Design reviews for both internal staff as well as outside Engineering firm partners.
Respond to customer requests for information.
Understand functions critical to producing margin. Ability to find opportunities and make decisions that positively affect profit margins.
Utilize design knowledge with judgment from previous projects to drive competitive design solutions—daily.
Advanced 3D modeling and proper 2D drafting techniques to allow the best depiction of complex designs while preserving impeccable drafting skills by the absence of errors—daily.
Understand and utilize relevant application standards (i.e., ASME Sec. IX, cGMP, 3A & BPE) throughout the evolution of the design process.
Conduct and uphold the standard operating procedures of the department's engineering drawing control system—daily.
Provide direction and assistance in the design and creation of control systems.
Maintain all customer and prospect accounts and contacts in CRM software per training and published procedures.
Follow‑up with customer after field project is completed for feedback on satisfaction.
Update customers regarding current projects.
Provide design assistance pertaining to possible installation services.
Visit future or possible customer sites to provide assistance in design or scope of project.
Visit current installation sites to provide assistance and support necessary to field staff.
Develop AutoCAD drawings as required for projects, typically P&ID, layout drawings and 3D designs.
Define scope and bill of materials for projects and be proficient in the specification of equipment.
3D scanning of existing customer facilities.
ETO equipment models and drawings utilizing Autodesk Inventor.
Assisting project management with design information during the quoting phase of projects.
On‑site & remote design assistance during install projects.
Ability to support procurement on evaluation of equipment, including a cost‑benefit analysis, comparative analysis, and final selection when required.
Salary Salary: Dependent on level of experience.
Education & Training
Associate Degree, required.
Technical emphasis, required.
Bachelor Degree, preferred.
Required Experience
5 years if managing or designing hygienic process systems projects.
Project management experience.
Piping design, pipe fitting or welding.
Industrial food system processing and biopharmaceutical environments.
System design, equipment, and instrumentation selection.
Skills
Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database.
CAD design computer proficiency—AutoCAD Plant 3D, P&ID, Inventor, AutoCAD (2‑D and 3‑D).
Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to interact with employees verbally and in writing, remain in a stationary position for 80% of the workday, have close visual acuity, and constantly operate a computer and other office productivity equipment such as a phone, copy/fax/scan machine, computer keyboard and mouse with or without reasonable accommodation. It also requires the ability to occasionally lift, stoop, bend, and lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds. When at a customer site, the employee may be exposed to temperature extremes—both hot and cold—dust, and noise. Additional lifting of heavy objects during truck loading/unloading or equipment placement may be required. Must wear respirators, safety harnesses and other safety devices as required by the job site.
Travel Requirements More than 40 hours per week will normally be required to achieve the productivity necessary for this position. Overnight travel, Saturday, Sunday and holiday hours may be required.
