AEG Presents, New York, NY, United States
We’re looking for
6-8 volunteers
to join us for the Young Explorers Program (formerly the Saturday Youth Skills Program), where
children ages 6–13
who are blind or visually impaired come together to learn, play, and grow in a safe and inclusive environment. From arts & crafts to adapted games, drama, music appreciation, and exciting local trips — every activity is designed to help these bright young explorers thrive academically, socially, and personally in their mainstream schools.
Volunteer Details
When: Saturdays October 18, 2025 – May 16, 2026
Time: 8:45 AM – 2:30 PM
Where: Lighthouse Guild (NYC)
Volunteers Needed: 2-14 per session
Program Sessions:
Winter/Spring 2026: Jan 10, 24; Feb 7, 21; Mar 7, 21; Apr 11, 25; May 2
What You’ll Do
Support instructors in classes like arts & crafts, computers, and physical education
Guide students between activities and on field trips
Engage with students in a warm, age-appropriate way
Bring your positive energy and enthusiasm to every session!
Returning volunteers are encouraged to attend as a refresher. A volunteer's ongoing involvement is essential to program continuity, and priority will be given to those who can commit to the full schedule. Others who can only commit to specific dates will be selected as
"Support Assistants".
Qualifications
Interest in working with children and youth with disabilities
Punctuality and preparedness
Physical stamina to move with children and pre-teens
Flexibility and initiative
Ability to follow directions and problem-solve
Completion of human guide training (provided during orientation)
Weekly service time logging and communication with program staff
Bilingual Spanish speakers encouraged to apply!
Computer workshop assistance is a plus, but not required
