Department-Specific Responsibilities

Leads the planning, design, and stewardship of integrated marketing and communications strategies that advance divisional and campus goals. Translates complex priorities into clear campaign frameworks, messaging strategies, and multi-channel plans to aid in meeting unit- and division-level strategic goals. Develops creative briefs, campaign roadmaps, and timelines for major initiatives, events, and priorities. Serves as a strategic advisor to division leadership and campus partners on communication approaches, risks, and opportunities. Ensures alignment with institutional branding, accessibility standards, and communications policies. Serves as primary project manager for portfolio; owns and continuously improves marketing intake, prioritization, and project management processes in collaboration with other portfolio leads. Develops and maintains workflows, content calendars, and project-tracking systems that support efficient cross-functional collaboration. Serves as the primary point of contact for marketing and communications requests, assigning work and setting expectations as appropriate. Coordinates with internal teams, campus partners, and external vendors to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. Supervises full-time staff and student employees, providing direction, coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support. Leads hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation, and scheduling for professional staff as appropriate. Fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and learning within the communications team. Leads or contributes to communities of practice, committees, and cross-campus working groups related to marketing and communications. Defines campaign goals, metrics, and KPIs; oversees data collection and reporting across channels; produces and communicates regular insights and impact reports for leadership and stakeholders. Analyzes performance data to generate actionable insights and recommendations for future efforts. Conducts audience research to inform messaging, channel selection, and content strategy; stays current on emerging tools, technologies, and best practices; proactively shares knowledge and recommendations with colleagues. Serves as campus point-person for SMS and texting strategy. Oversees high-priority content across digital and print platforms, including websites, campaign pages, email/SMS communications, newsletters, social media, video scripts, and promotional materials. Supports issues of high-profile campus publications, such as JagNews. Contributes to division-wide newsletters, storytelling initiatives, and content series as needed. Leads social media strategy and execution, including content calendars, platform optimization, accessibility checks, and performance monitoring. When needed, serves as final approver for content, social posts, apparel, and promotional items to ensure brand and licensing compliance. Serves as one of the division's representatives to University Communications and Marketing and other campus communications groups. Partners with campus stakeholders to amplify divisional priorities through shared channels and initiatives.

General Responsibilities

Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or large multi-faceted department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external. Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications. Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs. Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents. Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty. Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences. Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational recommendations to manager. May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Generalists.

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field.

5 years in a relevant field.
