
Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and serves as a key member of the team responsible for the success of The Course at Tree House Greater Boston. This hands‑on managerial role supports the Superintendent in executing all aspects of daily course maintenance and set‑up, including cultural practices, fertilizer application and calibration, irrigation troubleshooting and repair, and both short‑ and long‑term improvement projects.
The Assistant works closely with the Superintendent to develop daily work schedules, coordinate staff and equipment, train and oversee team members, and supervise construction and maintenance activities, all while ensuring the course consistently delivers healthy, high‑quality playing conditions for guests.
This position is full‑time, based in Tewksbury, MA, and will require early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
The starting base salary range for this position is $65,000‑70,000 annually. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors such as job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Base salary is only one component of the total compensation package, as this role is eligible for participation in the company excellence bonus program and a robust benefit package.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in overseeing the overall grounds and health of the nine‑hole golf course and facilities of the Tewksbury property
Leading and directing the maintenance of all property grounds for the Tewksbury location, including delegating and assigning daily work assignments, providing guidance, training, coaching, and assisting team members, and ensuring work is completed as expected and on time
Collaborating with the Superintendent in developing the agronomic plan and budget for the course, and assisting in leading the implementation and oversight of the plans
Identifying, evaluating, and recommending corrective action for agronomic problem areas, including fungi, pests, and drainage issues
Participating in chemical and fertilizer applications and recordkeeping
Regularly inspecting irrigation systems, identifying issues, and implementing corrective action
Supporting and participating in the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment and fleet, helping ensure equipment readiness and reliability
Participating in interviewing, onboarding, and training department staff; helps develop and implement ongoing training programs
Partnering with the Superintendent to recommend, evaluate, plan, and lead long‑term and short‑term projects related to renovations, repairs, and care and maintenance of the course
Incorporating and enforcing safe work practices in all job functions, and ensuring maintenance facilities and equipment are safe, clean, and organized
Winter responsibilities of equipment repair, snow removal and general facilities maintenance
Minimum Qualifications
2+ years related experience with general golf course maintenance, working in a supervisory role as an AIT or Second Assistant is preferred
Current Massachusetts Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one upon hire
Completion of a Certificate or 2-4 year turfgrass program preferred
Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in Golf Course Maintenance/Turf Maintenance
Knowledge of the use of turf and landscaping equipment including tractors, mowers, aerifier, electric motors, etc.
Basic administrative ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws, and regulations)
