Opportunity Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, is adding a Lighting Designer to our Lighting team in Portland, Oregon. Join Glumac’s Lighting Studio to design electric lighting, daylighting, and lighting controls on a variety of projects and delivery methods (from design‑assist to full design‑bid‑build). You’ll collaborate closely with project managers, electrical designers, EORs/QC reviewers, and architectural teams across Glumac offices to produce solutions that balance aesthetics, performance, energy efficiency, and occupant experience.

Position Summary We’re seeking a Lighting Designer with 2–5 years of lighting design experience (or equivalent design experience) who can support project delivery from conceptual sketches and renderings through fixture selection, specifications, calculations, and energy‑code documentation. You’ll manage lighting scope and deliverables with regular client and team coordination, contribute technical research and white papers, and help the studio stay current on products and industry trends.

Essential Job Functions

Design electric lighting, daylighting, and controls; develop layouts, fixture schedules, specifications, and calculations with minimal supervision.

Produce conceptual renderings (photo manipulation and software) and hand sketches to communicate lighting intent and installation methods.

Coordinate closely with project managers, electrical designers, EORs/QC reviewers, architects, and MEP teams to integrate lighting with all trades.

Manage client communication, scope, resources, and deliverables to meet project budgets and schedules.

Prepare lighting portions of Energy Code Compliance documentation.

Organize and facilitate design meetings, site visits, mock‑ups, and on‑site aiming and controls programming.

Maintain relationships with lighting representatives; evaluate emerging products and industry trends before recommending them.

Share knowledge and contribute consistently to the lighting team through technical write‑ups, white papers, and mentoring.

Required Qualifications

2–5 years lighting design experience, or equivalent design experience.

Design degree or equivalent experience.

Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.

Working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and AGI32.

Strong prioritization, time‑management, and organizational skills.

Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills for internal and client‑facing work.

Familiarity with architecture, interior, and landscape basics and construction coordination.

Ability to prepare fixture selections, specifications, calculations, and energy code documentation.

Understanding of human visual system principles and how to apply them to lighting design.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with mock‑ups, on‑site aiming, and controls commissioning.

Demonstrated knowledge of major fixture manufacturers and industry trends.

Experience producing technical white papers, reports, or memos to articulate design concepts.

Memberships or credentials common in the studio (IESNA, IALD) or professional credentials such as LEED AP or Lighting Certified (LC).

Passion for sustainable, occupant‑centered lighting design and collaborative, multi‑office project work.

Work Environment and Location This position offers a hybrid work environment, with a requirement of two in‑office days per week in our Portland, Oregon office. All candidates must be located in and eligible to work in the U.S.

Compensation Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000 (depending on experience). The base salary range represents the low and high end of the compensation scale for this role. Actual salaries will be determined based on location, experience, responsibilities, and qualifications. This salary range is just one component of Glumac’s total compensation package, which includes benefits, professional development opportunities, and additional incentives.
