Brief Job Description The Materials Management Specialist (Vehicle Driver) reports to the Regional Business Services Manager (BSM) in Regional Administrative Services. Responsibilities include:
Assembly, repair, delivery, pickup, and installation of equipment, furniture, and other business supplies.
Receiving, signing for, inspecting and distributing packages to appropriate personnel at HHS offices.
Processing and distributing document service/copy requests.
Sorting and distributing mail to various HHS office locations.
Driving, inspecting vehicles, maintaining vehicle logs, performing minor vehicle repairs, and ordering inventory.
Performing warehouse duties, tracking inventory, operating motorized equipment, assisting office moves, completing minor building repairs, and directing contractors/vendors.
Serving on the Regional Disaster Deployment Team by delivering and setting up emergency equipment and supplies.
Utilizing CAFM and CAPPS systems for assignment documentation.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
Drive state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver/pickup large items; evaluate routes; perform minor vehicle repairs; monitor maintenance; update logs and submit monthly reports (30%).
Perform shipping and receiving duties: receive, inspect packages; process outgoing mail; determine shipping method; maintain postage records; use FedEx and LoneStar systems (25%).
Perform standard warehouse duties: safe storage, inventory management, operating forklifts, dollies, pallet jacks; monitor stock levels (25%).
Assemble and install furniture & equipment; perform minor building repairs; assist office moves; oversee contractor activities (10%).
Function as a member of the Disaster Deployment Team (10%).
Attend work on a regular predictable schedule and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance, safe cargo loading/unloading.
State and Federal traffic rules and regulations for cargo and mail delivery.
Warehousing procedures and safe use of motorized equipment.
Skill In
Operating motor vehicles including panel trucks and cargo vans, with or without a trailer.
Managing multiple priorities.
Use of standard agency computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Ability To
Obey State and Federal traffic laws and follow safe practices in loading/unloading.
Prepare accurate records documenting vehicle maintenance, mileage, usage, compile data and perform basic math.
Operate specialized equipment such as a postage meter, copier equipment, bindery equipment.
Understand and utilize documentation systems such as CAPPS and CAFM.
Operate warehouse equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, dolly.
Lift, pull, push, or carry 50 pounds.
Perform basic building maintenance or repair such as painting, caulking, changing light bulbs.
Follow verbal and written directions for completing tasks, assembling basic items.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers.
Travel locally and across the state which can include overnight stays.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
Initial Screening Criteria High School diploma or GED is required. Ability to communicate effectively in writing as demonstrated in the application. Preferred experience in shipping, receiving, sorting, and distributing furniture, supplies or equipment. Preferred experience operating warehouse equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, dolly, etc. Preferred experience pulling a trailer. Preferred experience driving a panel truck and/or cargo van.
Additional Information May assist with emergency/disaster situations throughout the state, which may include overnight stays.
