Working Title: Public Relations Specialist
Department: Marketing and Communications

Position Status: Regular
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:15am-4:15pm
Hours per Week: 37.5
Months per Year: 12
Purpose of Position Assists the Chief Communications Officer in sharing NKU’s stories with the media and other targeted audiences, cultivates relationships with local and regional media. Engages with colleges, campus and Alumni office to seek out stories. The Public Relations Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the university’s brand and reputation through effective communication strategies.
Primary Responsibilities
Writes press releases, coordinates supporting details, and proactively pitches stories and experts to media.
Manages media relations in partnership with the Chief Communications Officer, including responding to inquiries, coordinating interviews, and supporting on-camera engagements.
Maintains campus event calendars, media contact lists, and coverage tracking tools.
Serves as vendor contact for media monitoring software and analyzes coverage and sentiment.
Assists with media and marketing communications planning and research.
Writes and edits content for NKU in View and compiles weekly campus communications.
Maintains subject matter expert and media databases.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a similar field.
Strong AP‑style and newsroom‑style writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and compelling content.
Demonstrated proficiency in copywriting, editing, and developing content for varied audiences.
Social media proficiency, including understanding of best practices for engagement and reputation management.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn additional communications systems and tools.
Ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners and engage professionally with media outlets and community stakeholders.
