Part-Time Public Safety Communications Specialist (Dispatcher)(Temp Level 4) Hourly Rate:

$50.00 per hour

This is a part‑time, temporary position not eligible for benefits.

Work Schedule:

Up to 25 hours per week. The work schedule varies and may include evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, or early/late shifts to maintain minimum staffing levels.

Job Summary This position serves as the initial point of contact for public safety and law enforcement in the District, receiving 9‑1‑1 calls and providing assistance to students, faculty, staff and visitors at Maricopa Community Colleges. The dispatcher communicates vital information to the District, college constituents and members of public safety, as well as external communities, often under stressful circumstances. Responsibilities include dispatching for multiple public safety personnel at multiple colleges and obtaining assistance from allied public safety agencies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of dispatch or related law enforcement or public safety experience.

Special Requirements Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of the information handled, successful completion of a background investigation, polygraph testing, and a psychological examination are required.

Desired Qualifications

Experience effectively dealing with confidential and sensitive matters and emergency situations in a fast‑paced environment.

Associate's degree or higher in Administration of Justice or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Two (2) or more years of experience operating a variety of law enforcement communications equipment, including multi‑line telephone systems, public safety radios/communications equipment, and computer‑aided dispatching (CAD) systems within a Primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or secondary PSAP.

One (1) or more years of experience with criminal justice database and information systems.

Experience in keyboarding or typing or data entry.

Experience using emergency‑related mass notification systems such as Reverse 911 or private applications such as LiveSafe and Rave Guardian.

Experience working within a police records and/or property & evidence unit.

Special Working Conditions Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of the information handled, candidates given a conditional job offer will be required to successfully complete an extensive background investigation, fingerprinting‑based background check, pre‑polygraph interview & polygraph examination. Hold a Level "A" ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification (TOC) or be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
