Do you believe authentic learning begins with joy, movement, and trust?
Alpha School is redefining education—children accelerate academically and gain more time to develop essential life skills. For Pre-K learners, this begins with something even more foundational: emotional security, curiosity, and the resilience to keep trying.
Your role: guide an in-person Pre-K cohort in NYC toward a love of learning while delivering accelerated developmental outcomes—approximately 2x the growth rate of conventional preschool programs. You'll craft purposeful, sensory-driven play experiences aligned with developmental benchmarks, track progress on a weekly basis, and adapt instruction rapidly for individual children.
New York City offers: parks that support outdoor exploration, culturally diverse neighborhoods with engaged family communities, exceptional public transit access, and connection to leading-edge early childhood professional networks.
Create joyful learning. Drive measurable growth. Apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
Plan and lead 30–60 minute play-based instructional blocks designed to foster joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental progress Build a classroom environment rich in movement and sensory experiences that sustains high engagement and supports multi-modal learning for four-year-olds Conduct real-time observation and documentation: Record same-day, objective notes linked to developmental domains and refresh each child's milestone tracking weekly Leverage data to inform teaching: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's next developmental edge and design targeted instructional responses Create customized, interest-driven activity modifications for individual children, integrate one focused developmental objective, and evaluate results within a two-week cycle Support children navigating frustration through calm co-regulation strategies and emotional coaching instead of reactive behavioral management Maintain clear, proactive communication with families regarding student progress, classroom routines, and any developing concerns
What You Won’t Be Doing
Approach Pre-K as custodial care instead of purposeful early education Default to scripted worksheets or compliance-focused methods as your primary instructional strategy Devote most of your time to supervising academic applications rather than facilitating live, hands-on learning experiences Apply reactive behavioral controls instead of calm co-regulation and emotional coaching techniques
Early Childhood Education Specialist Key Responsibilities
Ensure NYC Pre-K children develop a love for school while achieving accelerated early-learning outcomes through purposeful play.
Basic Requirements
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR CDA/Montessori/Reggio credential At least 2 years of experience working with children aged 3–5 in a structured group environment (classroom setting, not exclusively one-on-one care) Documented success leading play-based instruction that produces visible developmental gains Established capacity to document developmental milestones objectively and reliably on a weekly basis using a structured framework or rubric Advanced relationship-building and emotional attunement: Capacity to establish trust rapidly, interpret emotional signals precisely, and apply personalized motivators to foster engagement Co-regulation and frustration support: Lead children through emotional challenges using calm modeling and systematic emotional coaching Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship requirements Available to work full-time onsite in New York City, NY
