Job Description

The Director of Finance works for the Dickinson‑Iron ISD, Breitung Township Schools, and is the oversight to the Business Service Consortium (BSC). This is a full‑year, full‑time, exempt position that offers competitive wages and full benefits and will begin on or before July 1, 2026. Office is located at the DIISD Consortium Building in Kingsford, Michigan. The deadline for initial consideration is Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.

Report To: Superintendent

Length of Contract: 260 days, 12 months

Employment Status: Administrator, Exempt

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
  • Three years recent and relevant experience in Accounting.
  • Currently possess or have ability to become MSBO Certified as a Chief Financial Officer.
  • High degree of proficiency in office procedures and protocols.
  • Above average knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Database programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Demonstrate competency in management and supervision.
  • Adhere to all Board/State requirements.
  • Driving may be necessary; valid driver’s license required.

General Description

Manage the Business Office daily operations for all participating Business Service Consortium (BSC) members, AP/AR Supervisor, Pupil Auditor/Truancy, and Business Service Consortium Service Personnel. Maintain, code, and budget all BSC and eFinance consortium funds. Provide fiscal expertise to all ISD Departments and BSC Administrators. Ensure that all State and Federal regulations for labor laws are adhered to.

Essential Business Functions

  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.
  • Develop, coordinate and manage daily work schedules for the BSC staff.
  • Work with the auditor on a continual basis to keep current on all audit requirements.
  • Evaluate the BSC staff and Pupil Auditor/Truancy on a yearly basis.
  • Attend workshops or conferences as needed to keep current on laws or changes to school accounting.
  • Provide an updated inventory of all fixed assets.
  • Create spreadsheets and databases for Payroll, Accounts Pay/Rec, Negotiation, Grants, and other BSC reporting needs.
  • Code and budget all items pertaining to the BSC or eFinance consortium.
  • Provide financial and budgeting support for all administrators.
  • Ensure internal controls are followed to the auditor’s satisfaction.
  • Submit all W2 and other electronic data to the Federal and State agencies for the ISD and eFinance consortium members.
  • Coordinate MEGS+ and/or NexSys activity and transmissions.
  • Coordinate and complete all reporting requirements regarding grants, Maintenance of Effort, Excess Cost, Facilities Settlement Report, and any other reports.
  • Maintain compliance with the transparency reporting.
  • Oversee the Pupil Accounting/Auditing function.

Essential Consortium Functions

  • Provide technical and software support for Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Disbursements, Purchasing, Budgeting, Selective Student Data Systems, and Fixed Assets to all ISD and LEA eFinance users.
  • Develop and maintain the eFinance consortium budget under the guidance of the eFinance consortium superintendents.
  • Ensure a security and backup system for all eFinance files and users.
  • Conduct in‑service and training sessions on updates to eFinance consortium software.
  • Create all fiscal and calendar updates needed to proceed from current year to the next in Payroll and accounting.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
  • Adhere to DIISD Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other associated duties as assigned by administration.

Additional Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.
  • May be required to use personal vehicle to perform job‑related functions, with reimbursement.

Job Requirements

  • At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
