The Senior Director, Account Development leads the regional strategy and execution of account development across a specific region. This role is responsible for driving enterprise-wide revenue growth, optimizing pipeline performance, and aligning account development with corporate strategic objectives. The Senior Director will sit in our Morrisville, NC office 3 days a week and partner with senior leadership across Sales, Marketing, Business Development, and Operations to ensure a unified go-to-market approach and to foster innovation in lead generation and customer engagement.
This role oversees a regional team, sets long-term vision, and ensures operational excellence through data-driven decision-making, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Achieves or exceeds assigned Account Development Team objectives and targets.
- Collaborates with the Vice President of Global Account Development to manage and prioritize account segmentation plans and engagement activities towards achieving agreed-upon business strategies.
- Responsible for driving representative output and delivering high-performance team culture of accountability.
- Works with Business Development leadership to participate in BD processes and meetings to ensure consistency and alignment with Business Development strategy and activity.
- Provides leadership and guidance to the Account Development team and evaluates and directs the resources needed to drive the achievement of business goals.
- Participates in account engagement monitoring and quality assurance of team members to ensure activity standards are achieving objectives.
- Responsible for accurately measuring activities and results related to account development activities. Manages and oversees the achievement of key performance indicators.
- Collaborates with the Business Insights team and Sales Operations teams to prioritize account segmentation plans and engagement activities, aiming to achieve agreed-upon business strategies.
- Proactively collaborates with Marketing to plan, implement, and measure regional marketing programs against targeted markets.
- Line management responsibilities for regional team, including participation in interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations.
- Works with and advises the team on administrative policies, procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods. Provides plans, recommendations, and performance summaries for the Account Development team, which may include, but are not limited to, assisting in planning the overall direction of the business, opportunity analysis, territory alignment planning, segmentation, analyzing market opportunity, staffing models, and needed support.
- Works closely with the Vice President of Global Account Development around operational excellence, business strategy, change management, process improvement, and best practices.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Business, Marketing, or related field.
- Progressive experience in senior leadership roles within Account Development, Inside Sales, or Business Development. Familiarity with the pharmaceutical or CRO industry.
- Proven success in leading large-scale global sales organizations and driving measurable business outcomes.
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical, CRO, or life sciences industry preferred.
- Expertise in CRM systems, sales analytics, and digital engagement platforms.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Direct management experience including planning, goal setting, and implementing practices to achieve performance goals and the development of individual team members.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and drive cross-functional collaboration.
- Effective written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
