Finance Director

Our non-profit client is searching for a Finance Director for their headquarters located in Greenway Plaza area. This position oversees all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, transparency and compliance with GAAP. This role leads daily accounting functions, manages financial reporting, oversees payroll processing, maintains the 403(b) retirement plan for eligible employees, supports strategic decision‑making, ensures strong internal controls, supervises Finance staff and is a key strategic partner for the leadership team. The salary range is $110,000-$120,000 per year with wonderful benefits and a work‑life balance.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Conduct programmatic, operational and financial analyses to support organizational planning and cost.
  • Oversee daily accounting functions including general ledger and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Lead preparation of the annual operating budget.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze and clearly report variances, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce strong internal controls, financial policies, and accounting procedures. Ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Support preparation of the annual Form 990.
  • Prepare reports needed for annual audit, provide all needed documents to auditors, facilitate the audit process, and implement auditors’ recommendations and adjustments.
  • Manage banking relationships and ensure timely cash flow management.
  • Maintain all credit accounts with vendor/service providers.
  • Maintain asset inventory and quarterly depreciation schedule.
  • Oversee payroll processing ensuring payroll is run accurately, timely and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain 403(b) retirement plan for eligible employees.
  • Review all donations for correct coding.Reconcile donor management system and accounting system data.
  • Prepare materials and reports for the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. Participate in meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Supervise and mentor Finance staff. Responsible for Human Resources activities of direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, and performance evaluations.
  • Attend staff meetings, other organizational meetings, occasional fundraising events, and other events as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA required.
  • Non‑profit experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Sage accounting software preferred.
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High ethical standards, integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Must be detail‑oriented.
