Director of Procurement (North America)

Location: El Paso, Texas, USA

Industry: Automotive (Tier 1 Wiring Harness Supplier)

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Direct Reports: Team of Commodity Buyers, Indirect Material Purchase Specialists, and logistics lead.

Summary

The Director of Procurement (North America) will be responsible for defining and executing the strategic sourcing vision for all direct and indirect materials within the North American operations. This leadership role is critical to maintaining a competitive advantage for the company, which operates as a Tier 1 supplier of automotive electrical systems and wiring harnesses to major OEMs.

The successful candidate will lead a professional procurement team, drive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reductions, ensure supply chain continuity and resilience, and manage strategic relationships with a global supplier base.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership & Vision
Develop and implement a cohesive, multi-year procurement strategy for the North American region, aligning with the company's global objectives and specific OEM quality/cost requirements. Identify and secure long-term, strategic supplier partnerships for key commodities critical to wiring harness production (e.g., copper, terminals, connectors, insulation, and protective coverings). Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, focusing on digitization, efficiency, cost mitigations and best-practice implementation across the supply chain.
  2. Team Management & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the purchasing team, including Commodity Buyers and Indirect Material Specialists. Set clear performance metrics (KPIs) for cost savings, supplier quality, inventory management, and on-time delivery. Foster a culture of strategic sourcing, financial stewardship, and strong business ethics within the department.
  3. Cost Management & Negotiation
Oversee all major commercial negotiations, including long-term agreements (LTAs), price indexing, and annual cost-down targets with Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers. Implement advanced cost analysis techniques (should-cost modeling, value stream mapping) to challenge existing supplier pricing and drive structural cost reductions. Manage currency, commodity price, and geopolitical risk associated with the supply chain.
  4. Supplier Relationship & Risk Management
Establish and maintain a robust Supplier Relationship Management program, focusing on performance, innovation, and joint process improvement. Identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks (single-source dependency, capacity constraints, quality issues, logistics) to ensure zero disruptions to OEM production schedules.
  5. Indirect & Services Procurement
Oversee the efficient procurement of all indirect materials, MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations), CAPEX (capital expenditures), and logistics and other professional services required for the facilities and NA operations.
