Director of Engineering - LV Switchboards
Company: Family-Owned LV/MV Switchgear OEM
Location: Union, New Jersey (On-site, Generous Relocation Assistance Available)
Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer (30-year Industry Veteran)
Compensation: Highly Competitive Base + Performance Incentives + Executive Benefits
The Opportunity: Scaling a 75-Year Legacy
Our client has spent seven decades perfecting custom LV/MV switchboards and panelboards. They aren't just a manufacturer; they are a staple of "Made in the USA" engineering. But here’s the exciting part: the world just caught up to them.
Between the explosion of data centers, e-mobility, and renewable grid upgrades, their order book is overflowing. They have just invested in a brand-new facility to massively increase throughput. Now, they need a technical heavyweight to professionalize the engineering function and lead the team through this hyper-growth phase.
The Role: Top Technical Authority
As the Director of Engineering, you won't be a middle-manager buried in spreadsheets. You will be the ultimate technical voice for the engineering function . You’ll be tasked with transforming a high-touch, custom shop into a scalable, high-output engineering powerhouse.
Your Mandate:
- Systematize Success: Establish engineering standards, quality gates, and documentation processes needed to scale without losing the custom "white glove" service they are known for.
- Team Building: You aren't just managing; you’re coaching. You will develop the next generation of Engineering Managers and ensure cross-functional harmony with Manufacturing and Project Management.
- Strategic Design: Serve as the final technical authority on complex custom builds for healthcare, telecom, and critical infrastructure.
- Scaling Throughput: Work directly with the COO to align engineering capacity with a rapidly expanding sales pipeline and a new, state-of-the-art production floor.
Who You Are
- 15+ years of experience specifically within LV/MV power distribution sector (switchgear, switchboards, panelboards).
- 7+ years in a management role, ideally having led teams through rapid expansion or a significant scaling event.
- BSEE is a firm requirement.
- You understand that for a manufacturer, leadership happens where the equipment is built. You thrive in an on-site, collaborative environment.
A Note on Fit:
This role requires deep, product-level OEM experience. Candidates coming strictly from EPC, MEP consulting, or general manufacturing without a power distribution background will not be a match for this specific technical mandate.
Why Join?
- Direct Impact: You report to the COO and have a direct line to the owners. Your decisions shape the company’s future.
- Stability Meets Growth: Enjoy the job security of a 75-year-old profitable firm with the excitement of a scaling energy-infrastructure company.
- Legacy: Lead the charge for a company that represents the future of US-based electrical manufacturing.
