After Care Director (TK-Grade 3)
Part‑Time – 10‑months, Non‑Exempt, Category 5
Reports To : Principal of Grades TK‑8
Position Summary The TK–3rd Grade After Care Director oversees the daily operation of the elementary after‑school care program, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging environment for students after the school day ends. The Director provides supervision, organizes activities, supports homework completion, and fosters a positive community where students feel known, cared for, and supported. The After Care Director will also schedule ongoing classes (athletics, fine arts, etc.) for students during after care hours.
The Director models strong character, maintains clear communication with families and staff, and ensures that all program policies and safety procedures are followed.
Key Responsibilities Program Supervision
Oversee the daily operations of the TK–3rd grade after care program.
Supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities.
Maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment.
Ensure proper student check‑in and check‑out procedures.
Student Engagement
Plan and facilitate age‑appropriate activities including:
Homework support
Arts and crafts
Games and outdoor play
Quiet reading or enrichment activities
Encourage positive behavior and model respect, kindness, and responsibility.
Help students develop social skills and resolve minor conflicts appropriately.
Staff Leadership
Supervise and coordinate after care assistants or aides.
Assign responsibilities and ensure appropriate student supervision ratios.
Provide guidance and support to after‑care staff.
Safety and Compliance
Maintain student safety at all times.
Follow all school safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Ensure proper documentation of incidents or injuries.
Monitor snack distribution and maintain a clean environment.
Communication
Communicate professionally with parents during student pick‑up.
Provide updates to administration regarding program needs or concerns.
Collaborate with teachers and school staff when needed.
Administrative Duties
Oversee the daily student sign‑in and sign‑out process to ensure accurate attendance and safe dismissal.
Maintain records of student attendance and participation.
Coordinate with the school’s billing or business office regarding monthly after‑care charges, ensuring accurate reporting of student attendance and usage.
Maintain program materials and supplies.
Assist with scheduling and overall program planning.
Maintain regular communication with the TK‑3 Director and Principal regarding program updates, student concerns, and operational issues within the aftercare program.
Qualifications
Experience working with elementary‑aged children.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Ability to supervise groups of young children in both structured and unstructured settings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage behavior in a positive and constructive way.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience leading after‑school programs or childcare programs.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Background in education, child development, or recreation.
Personal Characteristics
Patient, energetic, and nurturing.
Dependable and responsible.
Strong role model of character and integrity.
Able to create a fun, engaging environment for young students.
