
Director of Membership & Engagement

Position Overview
The Director owns the strategy and execution of membership growth, retention, and revenue performance. This role is directly accountable for delivering
$2.2 million in annual dues revenue
while strengthening member relationships and evolving the organization’s value proposition.
This is a hands‑on, revenue‑driving role requiring strong execution, data discipline, and consistent external engagement. The position plays a central role in the organization’s financial performance and industry presence.
Core Responsibilities Revenue Accountability
Own and deliver membership dues revenue goals
Develop and execute acquisition and retention strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets
Actively manage membership pipeline, renewal cycles, and forecasting
Identify opportunities to grow dues revenue through segmentation, pricing, and engagement strategies
Relationship Growth & Market Presence
Build and maintain high‑value relationships with ASA’s 800+ members and prospects
Serve as a primary external representative of the organization
Travel to ASA and other industry events, conferences, and member meetings to drive recruitment and engagement
Strengthen visibility and credibility across the industry
Member Value & Product Evolution
Lead efforts to
evolve and strengthen member benefit offerings
Ensure alignment between member needs and organizational programs, services, and communications
Translate member feedback and market signals into actionable improvements
Strong collaboration with other department staff and fundraising efforts
Engagement with ASA members at our annual trade show (ICAST), Member Summit, and other major events
Data, Systems & Performance Management
Maintain a strong working knowledge of Association Management Systems (preferably
iMIS )
Ensure data integrity concerning membership records
Utilize
Excel
to track performance, analyze trends, and support forecasting
Establish and monitor KPIs related to growth, retention, and engagement
Provide clear, consistent reporting on membership performance
Team Oversight
Supervise
one shared staff position
supporting membership operations
Ensure efficient execution of renewals, onboarding, and member communications
Maintain accountability and clarity in roles, priorities, and outcomes
Collaborate with Board members, industry professionals, and the entire ASA team.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in member relations, association management, and sales
Demonstrated ability to meet revenue targets and drive measurable growth
Strong relationship management and external engagement skills
Ensure data integrity of member records
Experience with the trade show and event environment
Proficiency in AMS, Excel, and data‑driven decision‑making
Travel is an integral part of this position. Must be able to travel
30–50%
of the time.
Interest in recreational fishing and other outdoor activities is a plus.
