WATG is hiring a Designer I – Architecture for our office in Tustin. This role requires in-person collaboration, with the option to work remotely only on Friday.
Role The Designer I supports the design of small-to-mid-size projects and the development of the project design, and the production of presentation drawings and sketches. The Designer also assists in solving design complexities, while some duties and tasks are likely to be repetitive as project demands require. Under close supervision, the Designer performs basic architectural assignments, receiving specific and detailed instructions related to tasks required and results expected. The Designer is responsible for working with the project team to assist in the overall effort of completing the various phases of the project.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Project Designer or a more senior project leader, develops, modifies, and reviews drawings ensuring the incorporation of design intent
Develops a growing understanding of the requirements to complete the project through all required phases of the project
Duties may include the development and implementation of project design concepts, project modelling, developing sketches, conducting research and data collection, preparing presentations and reports, and general production of design and construction documents
Works on multiple projects, providing concepts and techniques in ways that may explore new ways of achieving design solutions, completing tasks within established deadlines and budgets, and effectively utilizing resources to address project requirements
Interacts with clients and consultants, participates in project development and presents ideas clearly and persuasively
Prepares, manages and modifies architectural documents, elevations, sections, and details, as directed by others in the project team, following standards and archiving documents as appropriate
Develops solutions to technical and design problems following established design standards
May assist in the development of project scope, plans, and services during the contract process
Prepares 2D and 3D presentations, design drawings and renderings
Compiles data and performs fundamental design computations
Performs product research and may assist Project Designers and Project Architects with materials selection and system research
Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects
Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices
Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
Minimum of 3 years of experience designing small-to-mid-sized architectural projects, including urban and resort hotels
Developing professional with experience designing small-to-mid-size architectural projects
Environmental accreditation desired
Proficient technical knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D modeling and Revit
Sketching skills required
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to meet deadlines consistently and effectively
Effective written and verbal communication
Effective presentation skills
Ability to manage multiple project priorities
